According to Wikipedia, the name of the ITV region will change from Westcountry to "ITV South West" (so nearly TSW!) - so I guess we may see changes to the name on the Sky EPG and anywhere else that uses the name Westcountry.

Is it going to really be a single region? Won't the former Westcountry and West regions still exist for advertising regions, and thus still be seperate feeds from DSat?

One would hope so, but of course with regional adverts being played out from London, you are guaranteed to have mix-ups - I assume all regional adverts come with strict instructions on the VT clock as to which regions they should be played in, but so many times I've seen adverts for "South WALES Accident Helpline" being played on Westcountry...

I think the key phrase there is "according to Wikipedia".

Is the new programme having West/Westcountry opts like Tyne Tees/Border are, although one would be pre-recorded presumably? If so the two regions would need to remain.

Further to my comment about the piece on Spotlight, see also Inside Out South West next Wednesday (18th) on BBC One South West.

It appears there'll be a longer version of it on there.

I notice that Spotlight are now announcing that they are "Live from Plymouth" at every opportunity.

And, though obviously shorter than the one on Westcountry, it was good that Spotlight did a nice tribute and compilation of ITV in the south-west on Friday's 6.30 edition.

I'd have expected that to have been mentioned on here, especially as it contained lots of Westward, TSW and Westcountry idernts.

The wonders of You Tube...

Would they have got the copy of the old idents from ITV themselves? They were good enough quality not to be ripped from YouTube, but there was certainly a lot of tape jumps and film scratches in them.

Justin Leigh seemed quite emotional about the whole thing.

The old Westward and TSW material probably came from the South West Film & Television Archive (who also hold the BBC South West archive), not sure about the Westcountry material though.

Although of course before they moved to London Westcountry and HTV Wales both came from the same facility in Cardiff so that was probably just as likely then

The BBC would most likely have had the behind the scenes footage from Westcountry in their archive from times when they've covered it before, maybe when it got taken over. Either that or they just phoned them up and asked for it, I'm sure the guys at Westcounty wouldn't have minded.

A nice little piece by Spotlight, I look forward to seeing the extended Inside Out item

I think all the journos in the south-west are quite close and genuinely feel for each other.

Possibly because it was neatly edited out of the online version of Spotlight for some reason - copyright issues, presumably - despite a plug for the item remaining earlier in the programme. I only discovered the full report on YouTube because of the mentions it waqs given on here.

Despite the Sky EPG saying yesterday that the early evening news was "The Westcountry Today" There was instead more news from Westcountry News in Plymouth. Turns out from the newsreader, tomorrow (being today now obviously) is the last day of news from the Plymouth Studios.

There was also a big legend on the Westcountry News yesterday, there was a report on Valentines Day so they did a little bit of filming behind the scenes of the Westcountry newsroom showing the team falling in love with colleagues on their computers! One lady decided to kiss her Gus Honeybun!
