JT has got about a bit the last few weeks! Still Sky's best when it comes to serious news like this.

On a presentation note, I was in Italy last week and saw a bit of Sky TG24, which now is using the same style color scheme and logo as Sky News has now, but also graphics wise it's kind of a cross between the current Sky News set of graphics and the old set.

It still has the side panels, but the ticket is black and clock white, and the white blank space under the ticker is Black, the lower thirds are VERY similar to to Sky News now, however they only use one line of text and only go as far across the screen as needed for the amount of text, to the left of the clock there is blank space, no stretch right across the screen.

Essentially it's Sky news Italia in all but name.

^ The black ticker makes a huge difference. Hope Sky UK takes inspiration.

It looks quite nice. Just a reduction in the white wash makes everything looks a little nicer on screen. Not too keen on the music though, but at least it's more upbeat and interesting than the Sky UK track.

You'd think it would be called Sky Notizia instead of Sky TG24.

Does it not work in Italian?

It surprises me that there isn't a German equivalent.

I think there's no shortage of FTA news channels in Germany, between N24, n-tv and ARD's Taggeschau 24

True, but unfortunately none of them really conform to our news channel model - N24 and n-tv only really do 5 minute bulletins outside of the morning hours, and Tagesschau tends to be a cycle of simulcasts, repeated interviews and background pieces and culture/media/cinema segments which I think are rehashed content from other programmes. And even they stop at 8.15pm.

Meanwhile, France's BFM TV is wildly successful as a true news-and-talk channel. If wonder if they'll consider exporting their formula to other European countries.

Sky News seem to think Lisbon is on Central European Time for some reason.
