Just stumbled across this classic Press Preview clip and couldn't help but share...

Three things to note:

1. Textbook Pierce & Maguire. Easily the best pairing on Press Preview across the week and I'm so glad they have stuck around. Can't wait to get them back in the studio post-Covid without all the DTL delays etc.

2. Anna is great. Sky are lucky to have her and whilst she cracks up here, it is perfectly in context with the non-serious discussion, before news became a constant barrage of misery. This clearly also dates back to a time before Sky News started taking itself too seriously and became all the worse for it.

3. That studio. So versatile. I know I am in the minority on here these days in saying this but nothing they currently have even comes close.

Be great to hear your thoughts Very Happy

1 - Always entertaining when those two are on. Yes, different sides of the politican divide, and newspaper political leanings, but even when the issue is the polar opposite, they still treat each other with respect (even if it's not that noticable from Kevin)

2 - National treasure - and the only one who can keep those two on a very tight lead, subject matter wise. You only have to see them at the other end of the day on GMB when Reid and Moron let them run loose to see who quickly it can drift and derail.

3- Agreed. I really miss the old Sky News Centre. A much more pleasant and interesting backdrop with coloured depth, than a glassbox or virtual studio.

I kind of like the glass box now. I think the Sky News Centre would be starting to show its age.

Fair point but they could have always made some tweaks to keep it modern. I mean, when they went back there for the final time whilst the glass box was having 'improvements', it had never looked better.

I hope a little bit more imagination has been conjured up when creating the new graphics that are due to debut next month. Everything looks a bit boxy and sterile right now. No idea why they need to have that huge white strip under the ticker in the current package.

Pierce and Maguire were on with Anna Jones this Wednesday and she is very good too. Both Annas are very professional and likeable.

That was one of my main gripes, the white strip which then BBC News now use for their flipper.

Think the white bar is simply because the straps fly on from the bottom so it hides what would be an awkward look if the ticker was cropped to the height of the text.

I'm not sure the majority prefer the Glass Box - just reluctantly accept it. And as a viewer I think having different sets within one space to present from is more visually interesting than having studios in different locations. Also now Sky studios are designed more to be functional than eye catching.

I do think the Sky News Centre wasn't quite as nice when they dropped the newswall for the giant laptop, but it always had potential to evolve over time. Not too sure what more they can do with the glass box.

It would be very easy to just add a few led strips or LED boxes onto the pillars/balustrades of Sky Central in the shot they used for sunrise at the beginning of the glass box area in 2016/17. This shot (left of the atrium box-outwards) I consider most suitable as a backdrop also because the PC screens in the background create the feeling of a newsroom atmosphere.
Simple actions with a high effect.

Moving the cameras round so we're not greeted with dull corridors and just a screen would be a start.

Its understandable at the moment due to the pandemic and the building being largely empty, but the bland camera angles started well before that.

A bit of variation, as seen below wouldn't go a miss.

Those angles would be a little more interesting now, as the light strips that were added to the stairs (I assume) for the election were kept, so that last video thumbnail with Kay would look a lot more interesting.

I feel there was the sense that when the Glass Box first debuted they wanted to keep stuff Sky News could change within the box, but over time they've allowed them to expanded out of the box, such as originally the sets of screens that are seen over the shoulder when the desk is on the angle showed trailers and promotion for Sky content, but now they've been taken over to show elements from the titlecards or the blue background.

Same with the light boxes surrounding the box which were all white, but they've allowed them to switch colours.
