So the Jersey director just has to opt back on cue from Net1 talkback and hope not to catch a few frames of the red slide or cut off the start of the weather?
At one point there was a low-latency, low-quality monitoring feed available in Jersey to allow for this I believe. The same is true of their opt-in and opt-out of Spotlight - as they always have to crash-opt rather than soft-opt (they don't have a local feed of BBC One Network or BBC One SouthWest on their desk AIUI).
A bit more complex etc ..
When the French took back the Frequencies used by the radio link used by the BBC to feed all analogue Transmitters.
so the Radio NICAM stream were fed over E1s rather than E1 above the SHF vision circuits -
and another two E1s were added which carried a Cue vision feed
with both BBC one and BBC two Ceefax (and Datacast for Presfax) in its very full VBI.
BBC One and Two Analogue were received on Sky STB - had the Teletext bridged from the Cue feed
And subtitles from the Sky box before feeding the Transmitter.
So the five or six E1s going back to Plymouth had the Jersey Stdio out/Opt video on it
with the opt control signal being carried as teletext data to the switch in Plymouth.
The use of Teletext Opt control had been used at Sandy Heath for Cambridge for many years previously
with a Ceefax etc bridged on. The Feed From Cambridge also controlled what Cambridge got fed from Sandy
- network from SHF from Norwich or the News gathering SHF link (LandRover/Luton/ Northampton)
and also Bluebell Hill opt was Teletext Controlled from Tunbridge Wells mostly on BBC two -
But BBH could be set to RBS CP (- its old RBL) in order to protect Dover / Calais relay
The "Sky STB system" was used in the latter days of Analogue from just before the New BBC Cambridge was opened ..
it meant that analogue network did not have to be fed from the studio to Sandy
-it went Opt-switch to CCM to DSAT to Sandy
(teletext still came on the old and noisy SHF network feed from Norwich)
Luton and Northampton cameras were fed back by J2K over IP and the SHF Landrover went to be a sat truck
this saved a shed load of money not reestablising the radio links of strange nature
- which were anything but Line of sight to the new building )
