Quentin Smith, BBC SE's editor has taken SET too tabloid in the last year or so personally.

He has been there far too long now. Time for a change and a refresh in editorial time. He should go.

SET already has a USP of being the only real dedicated regional news bulletin for the region, yet for some reason, he's decided to turn into a hybrid of the Mail/Express with the constant immigration stories, sending reporters to Calais since before the election and now commissioning a debate in the post 10.35pm slot in August when you're not going to get senior figures when they're on holiday!

Have to agree on both points! There does appear to be a form of vendetta against the railways.

A typical SET running order

Immigration (Live from Calais or piece about KCC spending money on migrants)
Southern/Southeastern train bashing
Puff piece or some actual news
Token Brighton story
Headlines/Weather preview
Z-List puff arts/culture piece
Weather
Polly and Rob then read out viewer 'contributions' from UKIP activists.
End.

At least one of the news pieces will feature a live OB from Tunbridge Wells - either immediately outside the studio or (if it's about the railways) outside Tunbridge Wells station - which is opposite the studio!

I also forgot the two ways with Nigel Farage or another UKIP rep.

For those who missed or couldn't watch yesterday's Gridlock Kent.

I take it the backdrop is from the Thames Valley opt?

If it is Henley, I'd be surprised if they have many viewers as it's a relay of Crystal Palace in the town.

Both regions had the same backdrop. This was from the South East HD opt.

Any confirmation of the location of the new backdrop yet please?

Can imagine the editorial news meeting in the morning:

Quentin: "Right guys, have you got any immigrant stories? Farage has been on to me about the lack of negative stories on SET this week?"

Journo: "No"

Quentin: "Ok, time for the fall back plan, we have that Southern railway story we've been holding back, Claudia you're going over the road to do a live"

Claudia: "FFS"

Quentin: "That and a token Brighton story about gays and we're done"

Journo: "Nigel won't like it....."

Love it. And no apology to any South East Today staff reading this: your programme has the opportunity to be SO much better!

Aren't all the London commuter belt programmes obsessed with trains?

You can't watch an edition of BBC London without a report about tubes, buses, trains, Boris bikes, tfl in general.
