Totally agree with BFG. If CNN really were in the position where it’s impossible for them to operate the bulk of their international output, and really cared about the international audience, then why not have the US editions of Newsroom cover more international news rather than just US politics around the clock? If they even made an attempt to cover more international stories, particularly with the pandemic, then perhaps we would be more sympathetic of the position they are in!
Have been reading this discussion for a while now. I hear you...
... but have to admit: I liked it a lot when CNNI was just picking up the CNN domestic signal last summer. No altering things, no messing around with the graphics, not all those blank spots you currently see on simulcasts (no crawler, no clock, no weather etc.) It looks cheap!
So I am sticking to CNN domestic ... which very well does air int'l news.

Although international news has largely been US politics for the few months, even during the pandemic.
I think tonight is a great example of where being so reliant on CNN Domestic becomes an issue. The major global news stories have very much been the EU triggering and then backtracking on Article 16 and also France closing borders to most non-EU travel but instead because The Situation Room is simulcast instead it's endless discussion about the Republicans.
CNN Domestic is not a sufficient enough source of international news stories for CNNI to be a global news channel if it airs as much CNN Domestic output as it does now. You do wonder if those who want world news will move elsewhere whether that be BBC World News, Al Jazeera or just avoiding TV news altogether. I'm not sure there's the demand for US politics all the time globally really - obviously there is when it's the election or a big event like an impeachment or insurrection but you're not going to have that every day (hopefully).

I think there's a lot of channel hopping amongst news viewers, so I would say that people looking for world news will just flick over. I find myself hopping between CNN, Sky News Aust/NZ (we don't get the UK version), BBC World and Al Jazeera. I've been doing this a lot more in the last year then I normally would.
On CNN I now tend to watch a 1 or 2 hours of the Atlanta Newsroom blocks and QMB and that's it. I only really watch TSR and the other US shows when something really newsworthy is happening.
Yes it is quite noticeable what different channels are prioritizing when channel hopping. It's just past midnight GMT and BBC, Sky and AL Jazeera are covering breaking news from Myanmar while good old CNN International is having their US simulcast going on about Trump
Looks like the snowy weather in New York is clearly having a broadcasting effect with New Day coming from flash studios. (or as John called it, their bunkers)
I see also that World Sport is back at 1:30pm. I kinda don't see the point of two World Sport shows in the afternoon. It's not like nothing major will most likely happen within 105 mins of the first World Sport ending. I think they should keep just the 15 min version that is put into Connect The World.
"We would like to welcome our viewers here in the United States, Canada and around the World". Kim Brunhuber and Paula Newton have now started welcoming Canada separately. I never got this... If we are watching we can look out the window and we know where we are. A simple welcome would be fine! Plus, the US and Canada are also part of the world so "all around the world" would do.
Will Michael, John and Rosemary start welcoming Australia?!
Also, when anchoring from London, the don't give a special welcome to UK viewers.
It's a small thing. Tiny. Miniscule. But, it irritates me!
It's to alert viewers that it's a CNN US and CNN International simulcast.
BBC News and BBC World News do it on their simulcasts too - they often welcome viewers ''in the UK and around the world'' - but not the ones on Mars...

This does seem strange -- but perhaps they mention Canada because that country receives CNN Domestic rather than CNN International? So they're referring to "the U.S. and Canada" as one group (watching via CNN) and "viewers around the world" as another (watching via CNNI).

Yes, but the issue is why Canada gets a separate mention.
