I think it's to an identical design. It looks like the back might be a little lower but I'm not sure if that's just camera angles.
It is indeed to do with camera framing. Compare the amount of visible sky above the horizon behind the male presenter to the utter lack thereof behind the female presenter. Conclusion: Utterly identical sofas.
I wish they'd just move BBC Breakfast to the main sport set and be done with it.
We've seen it used for the Olympics and it looked pretty good. Lit in the breakfast colours and with the red sofa it would look 100 times better than the shoebox they're currently lumped with.

The 'shoebox' studio does what is required. It works fine for a national breakfast show, a regional news bulletin and a Sunday regional political strand. It's also used for Inside Out NW where they utilise that much better than the crappy CSO backdrops in other regions.
Thanks to Breakfast moving up to Salford, NWT has one of the best and most accessible studios outside London.

North West Tonight the studio looks bigger it’s a strange optical illusion it looks tiny when it’s breakfast.
I'd absolutely have moved Breakfast to the sports studio - the sports bulletins could easily be done from the second studio or if unavailable the NWT studio for those three hours.
Wonder what they'll do with Breakfast this year considering the Olympics will be live during the time slot for the first time since 2008. I think in Beijing Hazel Irvine and Adrian Chiles hosted Olympic Breakfast - I think with regional inserts on BBC1 as we weren't far off Digital Switchover, so asking viewers to turn to BBC2 analogue wasn't really an option.
The other option now of course would be the virtual sports studio used for the football and Blue Peter, though I dread to think what they'd come up with.
