Why can't we just have normal news, I don't really give 2 about the Oscars
To be fair, the Oscars are dominating the BBC News and Sky News homepages this morning, so it's only right that it dominates breakfast TV too. I didn't catch Sky News or BBC Breakfast this morning, but I'm pretty sure that it would have been the lead story on those programmes too. Whether the whole show was dominated is another matter though.
GMB is clearly still taking influences from American breakfast TV, and I wouldn't say that's a bad thing. They can't be a clone of BBC Breakfast, so they need to do
something
different.
Yes, today's titles and coverage was massively over the top, but I wouldn't say that the content was bad. It's just aimed at a different demographic.
I have just seen today's opening and I thought it was great.
As the Oscars are during the night; Breakfast TV (Whichever Channel) are the first people to report on the Big Stories Overnight and I would imagine we will get similar with the US Elections (The actual result) just like with the UK Election lats year.
In defence to GMB; it is only right they would do a show dedicated to the Oscars and I am sure other news bulletins (Again any channel) throughout today and tonight will feature The Oscars as the main stories; for once a happy story rather than sad news.
It's quite hideous to be honest. Way over the top. Fair enough they wanted to cover the Oscars in detail but did the whole show have to be dominated by it? People watch/read news on a morning to get an idea of everything that's happening, not to find out that the GMB studio lights can change colour.
I'm normally one of the first people to defend GMB as a viewer myself but today was poor.

I was wondering during which particular decade they were ever going to finally get to the title sequence.
Actually, it's generally at least 6:02am most mornings by the time that the titles have finally come-and-gone, but it *felt* like twice as long watching that Oscars-fest.
Literally no actual "proper news" headlines during that entire opening!
I quite like how that version of the theme tune sounds, but that's *all* that I like about what I've just witnessed.
I rather liked the opening, for me today (at least the opening) the 'American style' that the programme originally had came through.
It shows that they can put the effort into something if they want to and obviously the Oscars are something that they wanted to really focus on and remembering last year they did create special graphics for the Oscars too but didn't go into as much effort
