Interesting contrast with the outcry on this forum when Moira Stuart was taken off TV newsreading because she isn't a trained journalist.

The difference being that she was very much restricted to reading the news in her role on BBC Breakfast - she wasn't writing her own scripts, leading interviews or ad-libbing.

And I think in truth the explanation that "she isn't a trained journalist" was probably code for "she doesn't have the skills we require". That said, I think they missed a trick not moving her at the time to Radio 4, where the newsreader role is much closer to 'traditional news reading' than present roles. Moira becoming lead newsreader on Today would have been a good news story overall... And I'm not surprised Chris Evans had a similar thought a few years later.

Ben Sheppard presenting GMB is akin to Carson Daly filling in on NBC's Today Show... It's not that he's unsuitable for breakfast/morning television, just unsuitable for co-presenting such a programme. Still, he's much better in a journalistic-like role than Philip Schofield...

AIUI the BBC suggested that Moira was indeed offered a radio presentation job (which included newsreading duties), and that she decided not to take it.

Ah - I wasn't aware of that. Considering at the time she as presenting weekend news bullets on BBC One I suppose it might have seemed a demotion of sorts.

Possibly Johns last appearance?

Ben and Susanna are back in front of the desk for the TOTH. Presumably because it was a struggle to rush back to the desk from the interview area in time.

Piers has just been on This Morning and has mentioned that they've tried to find a permanent slot for Piers on GMB, which he says hopefully will be in the future.

Well that was honest. Surely they wouldn't axe Ben, perhaps sharing the role of presenting?

Maybe Ben might want to leave / do much less. He does an awful lot with his Sky Sports stuff on weekends, as well as filming Tipping Point and Ninja Warrior, as well as being on live TV for two and a half hours most mornings too on GMB.

Ben is going down to 2 days per week. It was planned from September, however, due to the hold up with Piers signing due to the National Lottery advert, he is continuing with his normal schedule for now. Piers would then be signed for the other 3 days or 2 days with a stand-in on Friday.

I wonder how it will work. Will Piers go with Susanna as he seems to rub her up the wrong way with Ben then with Kate at the end of the week? I suppose it depends on Ben's availability.

It is a shame that Ben is dropping to 2 days. I know that he has a lot of other projects on the go but he'll drop down to secondary anchor with this move.

Is it just a UK thing how presenters tend to do 4 day weeks when doing Live TV? Or on the like of GMA, Today & CBS This Morning in the states and Sunrise & Today in Australia - do their anchors only do the majority of the week?

Still mystified as to why they want Piers Morgan.
