I think we need to give this a chance. I think Tom will grow into this. But they do need to make sure that they keep Julie. She is a huge asset.

I think one question is why, if they are going to one presenter on NaT (as well as the 1.30), they need two on the 6.30. surely one would have been enough. They seem to have too many presenters for programmes, shame they can't use some on Good Morning Britain. The only person who does not seem to have been mentioned at all is Natasha Kaplinsky. I presume she will not now appear at all.

I wonder who the new political editor will be?

Glad it's not just me who found it a little strange that they are keeping the 18:30pm programme with two presenters?! I could possibly understand them wanting to make News At Ten more unique again...but with the 13:30pm bulletin being single headed too, why not all bulletins?

As you hint at in your post, there is a certain Breakfast franchise which is in far greater need of fixing...

You're like the Charles Allen of TV Forum. Your ideas are constantly cuts cuts cuts.

...and how is that different from what the Tories have enforced on the BBC, or indeed what big business does nowadays?

I'm really angry about this. I hope it flops

I was actually making the point that I don't agree with the two Newsreader format being scrapped?! It's one of ITV's few unique qualities against the BBC's offering...

Imagine if they renamed the News at 10 and called it 'Bradby at 10' it would then be ITV's very own Victoria Derbyshire programme. 😊

News at Ten regardless will be raising the bar above anything Mrs Misery and her editor put out on a daily basis.

One final thing, they have not said whether Tom will continue to present The Agenda. Difficult if he is presenting NaT, unless Julie presents on those nights.

I understand this is how it will work.

Could it be that one or more than one of the team wanted to cut back hours or change shifts, so perhaps this could be the reason for a big shake/mess up?!?!

One reason indeed.

I'm not sure which is worse, catching TB just before you go to bed or waking up to catch VD...

I'm glad someone still has a sense of humour........

On a serious note, I can't see the logic of the changes proposed by ITN. Perhaps it will all become clear with time. But it seems to be an odd move, just when - in my own opinion - the ITN output on ITV News has reached its best for many years.

I completely get their decision on this. At the moment, News at Ten is just another bulletin - nothing to really distinguish it from the 1.30 and 6.30. Back in the Trevor McDonald days, it felt special, and important. I think they're trying to get that back.

Back in those days, all the main ITV newscasts had their own identities, News At Ten's powerful theme 'The Awakening' along with the bongs being perhaps the best known and remembered. I'd like to think they'd go back to something similar but they did precisely that back in 2007 when it returned and it was soon prematurely ditched in the name of 'brand alignment'. See, it confuses people apparently if all the bulletins don't look exactly the same , even the regionals. How we managed in the old days, I do not know.
