How do the rights work for selling overseas?

Surely ITV would benefit from making more children's TV programmes to sell to overseas audiences and to rebuild their reputation.

Earlier this year the broadcasters confirmed that the project - which had the working title 'INK' (ITV Nickelodeon Kids) - was in development but that "detailed legal negotations" were slowing things down.

"We just got to the point of thinking that it was more sustainable for us to do it ourselves," a 'senior' ITV source told Broadcast this week. "The deal fizzled out over a period of time. We tried to make [the deal] work and it wasn't for the want of trying - but it was a difficult one."

I'm not entirely sure how it would have worked, seeing as Nickelodeon would have continued as a standalone channel. Repeats from Nick and new shows from CITV? Who would that appeal to? Especially since just a few months after launching their brand new, all day children's channel, they decided to… stop making children's programmes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5099694.stm

I think they have started to make more kids programmes now. They made a 4th series of Mr Bean: The Animated Series in late 2014/early 2015, Thunderbirds Are Go, Horrible Science, Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge and some others.

Note: Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge was a co-production with Disney XD, but just for series 1. Now it's just itv.

ITV aren't actually making the shows though, are they? All of them, bar Thunderbirds are made by other production companies.

As said, CITV obviously now have more money to play with.

Though, those are all still original programming. A few years ago most of the programmes were from another TV channel.

Is Sooty made by ITV? Sooty is quite good, series 3 is set to start this year and there is a movie out next year.

Sooty is made by Tivoli Media, but I agree it's nice to get new productions coming through. I'd love to see them attempt How again - I think I'd still watch it today.

How would be OK still the concept would work with modern questions. Would it be called How 3?.

ITV don't make any children's programmes so no, it is not made by ITV.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how much the budget is these days? Anywhere near the £30M it was 10 years ago?

But they do, they made Thunderbirds Are Go (though, that was a co-production).

I don't mind if ITV didn't make it, as long as the programming they are showing is original (like Sooty, Scrambled, Mr. Bean, Horrid Henry etc)

I didn't say they did produce them. I said that they are showing them.

Also, they did make Thunderbirds Are Go. It was produced by ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures.

Anyway, let's get back on topic.

Nobody running a TV enthusiast site is obligated to be watching the channel twenty-four seven and uploading new idents as soon as they appear. If it's notable it'll get posted about.
