I'm going to be a bit bitchy and say until the behind the scenes crew move on it won't change - they work with what they know and don't like going outside of their comfort zones... If the directors and producers moved on it would be a start
Well this team managed to create the newsier format that most here seem to laud. I expect its the network that has ordered it revert to type.
That is true. I know that things are all based on audience appreciation but an audience won't appreciate something new and different straight away. Like changing an ingredient in breakfast cereal, many will stick with it through the change and get used to it, some will go to a different brand and others will come to the brand instead.
This could still apply today; From Newscaststudio.com talking about the Daybreak 2012 rebrand:
Quote:
This makeover should serve as a cautionary tale for television stations. Just because ratings are low, doesn’t mean everything has to change.
But, this is standard operating procedure for “Daybreak,” a show that has been under constant change since it first aired in 2010. It seems with each debut, they’re planning the next new set and talent change.
Ratings success criteria is subjective anyway. The TV Forum ratings success criteria is if the show manages to get better ratings than BBC Breakfast. For ITV it will be how much money they are making.
The programme will have reverted to type if the hassled mum's have started to go elsewhere. That's ITV's bread & butter throughout the whole of daytime. Believe it or not, they are not looking to attract your average 20-30 (or maybe 40) something year old male TV Forumer (who are less likely to be watching daytime TV anyway). The changes to the programme may be to arrest a decline of that core viewing demographic.

Ah the good old suburban housewives with their 2 point 4 brats, if it wasn't for them do you ITV Breakfast would still be on the go...
Fair enough that the target audience may be women, but you don't want to push a programme too far that you end up alienating potential audience. If the hassled mum's approach is the only one that they want to take then why did they rebrand to GMB in the first place when many mums seemed happy with Lorraine & Aled, saying that Kate & Dan's stint on Daybreak was popular with them too.

They want the hassled mums + extra. But you can't reach for potential audience if you lose your core audience. Lose them, and its game over.
Anyway, how come Susanna Reid hasn't been let loose in other parts of the ITV schedule ? Surely she's due a gameshow by now ?

Me personally, I liked GMTV, Daybreak 2010, Daybreak Dan and Kate, Daybreak 2012 and GMB 2015, but then GMB 2014, I hated it!
It is only my opinion, but go back to the old version ("GMTV is back") for me and I prefer that to something not as warm in Spring 2014.
Piers doesn't have much chemistry with Ranvir and Susanna really I think. Whenever the camera changes shot with him he seems to just be sitting there staring at the camera before he realises that he actually is in shot.
The guest they were speaking to just dropped the f-word, Piers just sat there laughing... While Susanna had to apologise
