I know these changes will not be popular as most members basically want a morning version of News at 10 produced by ITN , instead of a BREAKFAST programme. The reaction from the public on twitter has been overly positive.

By softening the show up like this, are they not repeating exactly what they did to Daybreak and which ultimately failed to lift audience numbers? I could understand them trying it the first time with Daybreak as they probably had focus groups and the like saying that's what they wanted, but those changes were a demonstrable failure. The audience went down further. What's their reasoning this time?

The opening sting does sound like CBS This Morning, but the rest is a bit light.

Irony is that what people got back in February 83 and people switched off.

Tvam format works, but once you start mucking around or cutting cost what do you expect.

Oh god, the remixed theme sounds like this in my opinion!

I mean the GMB parts of the song are still there but they got the dings from this!

Bits of the opening theme sound like it's still Christmas! Other bits sound like they're saying good night instead of good morning!

When you feel the need to have so many tweaks within the space of 8 months, then you really should be questioning your original concept entirely.

That mix of the theme tune is in the same style as 'This Morning', and not really appropriate. The voiceover really is a joke. Both just scream lightweight trash TV.

I suspect that the new desk isn't long for this world, and will be seen in a skip outside Kent House before Easter: to be replaced by a relocated sofa.

Ah twitter, the steadfast barometer of reasoned public opinion.

This set refresh is clearly meant to soften the show and make it more 'light', as i assume they've marked GMB v1 a failure and are reverting back to past formats. I've said it before and i'll say it again, this is doing them no favours. Every single time they change sets or presenters they go back to the same format which looses them viewers. ITV breakfast in it's many incarnations has been part of my morning routine for a few years, and i've been a loyal viewer to their shows but i will be ' going over to breakfast'.
GMB won't last any more than 18 months before the presenters are axed and another new look is revealed. IMO they're in a worse position now than ever.
The Aled and Lorraine era of daybreak didn't preform as well as hoped, but at least the presenters had chemistry and were a lot more natural and down to earth. IMO this was also the most stable version of Daybreak since GMTV had ended.
They really should have admited defeat and brought back GMTV, now i'm not saying it would have solved everything but clearly the American breakfast show format doesn't work, Neither does the GMTV style one, however.
