no idea Critique, just wondered how it ended up being the only thing they showed during that simulcast.

My guess is, given what happened with the Farsi Click last week, that graphics templates are coded on the BBC Mainframe or whatever and the Newsnight Graphics are either next to each other on a list and someone mis-clicked or the code is just one or two characters apart.

When a Transmission path is selected a Viz machine is switched across the line.
This Viz machine needs to receive set up codes to set its style.
These are built into the top of each running order so they are taken before going on air.
Because World News was rolling on the Obama press conference these set up codes were not taken and so the Viz machine remained in the last state it was set to, which happened to be Newsnight.

I note that some hours, you get World News America at :30. I suppose this is just a repeat of World News America from 5pm ET/EDT?

I didn't realize there are WNA newscasts at :30 other than the one at 5pm ET because I tend to watch other things exactly at those hours. I assume they're repeats but I'll take a look and see if I remember to.

I can't say what other people prefer but I actually enjoyed Asia Business Report and that Asian perspective. If they insist on having more variation, it would be nice to have one or two editions of ABR instead of what we're offered now.

I wonder where BBC World will get it's images for it's World Cup themed Countdowns?
In the past we've had them borrow from BBC TV's promo.

This year we haven't had a promo like that. Not on domestic channels anyway.

I don't believe World had a breaking news ident since the 2003-07 look, so this is a pleasant surprise.

I'm fairly sure I saw a breaking news sting during the 2008-13 period. By the way, the official name for them is a PIDLE sting - Programme Interruption Device Live Event. A decade or so ago they used to have two - Breaking News and Live Coverage.

Are we getting confused between a sting interrupting pre-recorded programming and a sting within the bulletin before a strap comes on? Like that was introduced on News 24 in 2003?
