Or in Hull and hosted by Peter Simon.
In an ideal world it would be in Hull and hosted by Peter Levy.

My understanding is that the BBC aren't satisfied that Digame and/or the EBU can demonstrate that SMS voting would be acceptably transparent and robust in the UK and that every vote would be counted. App voting on some platforms actually uses SMS - and AIUI there has been no demonstration that the systems used meets the UK's requirements.
The UK broadcasters are aware of the limitations of SMS voting - mainly as a result of the phone vote scandals. The SMS issues weren't all to do with vote rigging, the main issue was large numbers of votes cast before the lines closed not arriving until long after the deadline (sometimes hours after) due to the way short code SMS works in the UK to avoid clogging the SMS network. They aren't sent like 'normal' texts. This was clearly unacceptable.
AIUI network handling has improved since then - and there may be a gentle reintroduction of SMS voting - but only in a controlled manner. A contest like Eurovision would be a very heavy stress test for a new system.
Can't the EBU force the BBC to allow UK voters to vote in this way?
In reality - not really. Technically I'm sure they could try and write it into the rules, but I doubt that the rule change would be passed. The EBU is effectively committees formed from the member broadcasters, and enough of them would probably support the BBC to avoid that situation happening.

I think this would be perfect for Christine Bleakley. And just out of curiosity, why do the BBC not allow viewers to vote via SMS or the App? Is it due to the vote rigging scandal from way back?

Would she? She doesn't turn up on much BBC light entertainment programming, so not sure what you're basing that on.
Fearne Cotton would probably be involved somewhere.

I'm wondering if TDC are dealing with the results this year rather than Digame? The feed from SVT had the TDC logo on the scroreboard rather than the digame one.
Obviously the BBC had no logo. They usually cover it up each year.

Except for the handful of times they forgot on Tuesday:

They're just one of the sponsors. It always seems to be a mobile company who gets on the scoreboard/qualifiers bit. Presumably to tie in with the televoting aspect. I'm pretty sure it's still Digame who does the compliance.

The Danes are bloody good at this, aren't they? Their telly at the moment is a credit to their nation. It takes a lot of effort to make a show like this seem effortless - see Italy's fiasco in the 90s (although that was hugely entertaining). The only thing that jarred a little for me was the references to gay people during the show. I don't think they were mean-spirited and may have been a jibe at Russia, but they were ill-judged.
In the unlikely event of an independent Scotland I would be bloody proud if we could host something half as good. (The countries have similar populations, in case you're wondering why I'm bringing that up)
BBC3 was a huge improvement on previous years. Aside from talking over the presenters at the start - a cardinal sin when they're talking in English - nothing really annoyed me. Talking over the interval act wasn't ideal but they do have to keep an audience which doesn't have a vested interest in this semi-final interested, and Scott was funny enough. He's a bit like Chris Moyles in that he's bloody good on the radio but doesn't quite translate over to TV, but for a BBC3 semi-final which he has a clear interest in and can bring an audience that otherwise wouldn't watch, he's fine. Thought Laura fitted in quite well - the speed-dating was a good touch. Yes, they're not as good as Graham Norton, but who is?
I can't see past him for hosting the show in the event of a UK win. You'd need an equivalent of Ulrika from the last time we hosted it - someone good with languages, who can improvise when things go wrong and hold themselves on one of the biggest stages in the world. Not an easy call.

Graham Norton and Claudia Winkleman did a pretty decent job with the Eurovision Dance Contest (twice), so they're definitely more comfortable with that kind of event.

Why would a blind person use SMS in the first place?

Definitely Graham to host if we win, but would he do the commentary as well?
If not, they might persuade Terry to do it for one year. He will probably reject, unless he realises it's the 60th and he is reassured that the political thing is less than before.
Otherwise it's Scott for me.
Co-host for Graham would be either Claudia, Katrina from Katrina and the Waves (she hosted the 50th anniversary special, even when the UK did not broadcast it) or Laura. But I'm pretty much sure (and this will be a first for a male) that Graham would host the voting section.
