So again this year it's another internal selection.

I agree we need someone reasonably current, and not complete has-been as we had in 2012 and 2013. That said, I like the shout for Geri Haliwell - she'll be popular with the die-hard Eurovision fans.

Personally though I'd like to send Emeli Sande or Ellie Goulding, someone current. We are such a huge exporter of pop music, yet you wouldn't believe this watching the world's biggest music competition!

To be honest, I really wish that the EBU would make National Finals compulsory and force the BBC to make an effort. They could quite easily re-tweak The Voice to send the winner to Eurovision.

I'd vote against Emeli Sande - it's nice to have one show a year which doesn't feature her.

If Geri Halliwell is the chosen entry, it will have to be unashamedly bold and brash like her earlier solo work rather than the nonsense she's been putting out lately.

Why not Adele? Why would they want to be associated with such a cringe fest? Even back in the 60's when current acts like Sandi Shaw or Lulu were sent, they were went kicking and screaming! Usually because of backroom deals between their management and the BBC for future tv shows . Sandi Shaw and Lulu have both talked about how they were bullied into doing it and what a cheesy and cringey reputation it had even back then.

It's a joke within the actual music industry. Most Eurovision fans get this but they are some folk who weirdly don't see that. The same ones who every year say 'why don't we send Adele ' Rolling Eyes

Some of us just want a decent singer who can sing and a decent song, and not someone receiving their pension, it doesn't take a superstar to win.

Let's face it, until Take That agree to do it - we don't stand a chance. Laughing

I said many years ago if their hit Rule the World had been sent to Eurovision as that year's entry, we'd have stood a hope. If there was ever a song made for the competition, it was that. In fact a song like this, with a decent artist could do well.

Indeed.

The likes of Radiohead, Coldplay, Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Emeli Sande, Adele or Robbie Williams won't take part because of the stigma attached to the competition.

I suspect ITV will get their hands on Eurovision at some point, and if X Factor's still going at that point - the winner will represent the UK.

I'd be VERY surprised if that happened. I'm sure the BBC are very happy with Eurovision and the ratings it gets for the cost of the licence (and entry costs of sending a delegation) AIUI it is incredibly good value for 3 hours of Saturday night entertainment. Why would they want to stop doing it? ITV would only get it if the BBC declined - and I don't see that happening any time soon.

Agreed, although to be honest, I'm not entirely sure ITV would actually want to take it on. While its managed to make a relative success of covering other big music events (namely The Brits/Classical Brits), I get the impression there are so many rules and regulations surrounding Eurovision that it would only be prepared to get involved if it could exercise more control over the final programme, which would be difficult given the sheer number of other broadcasters in the mix.

Then the BBC nees to reposition Eurovision in order to remove the stigma. The shower that is the semis coverage is a start. Move that to BBC Two and drop Scott Mills and Sara Cox. But I'm personally convinced our best option is to send someone who is getting epic levels of radio airplay. When was the last time a major commercial radio network like Heart or Capital playlisted a UK entry?

I was at Eurovision last year and I loved it. However I retain a sense of perspective and the people on here complaining about the acts the UK send are just living in cloud cuckoo land. Britain won in the 'glory years' with acts with limited credibility and in the case of Bucks Fizz no experience at all.

It is what it is, and the UK's time will come around someday again.

Your argument makes no sense. You don't want to music radio DJs who presumably have more music credibility than Graham Norton but you want the types of artist those DJs play on radio?

No one who is getting regular air play on Capital needs to do Eurovision in fact last thing they need is Eurovision.

I'd say Eurovision is different things to different countries and broadcasters, for the BBC and the UK public it works exceptionally well in it's current form as a bit of fun and a laugh once a year. It wouldn't be as useful to the UK public and the BBC if it were anything else. Sorry it's not what you want it to be but it's a reality I'm afraid.
