Curious fault. London gallery had network faded up perhaps?

Sara Thornton has tweeted to the effect that she used to be a newsreader before getting into weather and was filling in for somebody who was off sick, presumably at short notice.

Sara presented some bulletins on ITV Anglia around 10-11 years ago before moving to weather. I could be wrong, but I think Friday was her first news bulletin since joining the Beeb.

She certainly did some presenting while at Look North NE&C, at least on the 8pm bulletin.

Is it me, or did BBC London's lunchtime edition come from Studio C today?

Definitely Studio C in that shot, unless the VR studio has gotten a lot better!

This surely has to be a first, they promoted BBC Surrey on the lunchtime bulletin as DAB launched in the county today.

It was throughout the whole bulletin, why didn't they didn't switch to Tunbridge Wells?

Here's an edited video of the bulletin affected.

Because that's not something that they could do themselves for obvious reasons.

It is possible for another region to be switched to another but it's not a simple quick decision. By the time someone noticed and worked out what was going wrong (it is an opt out so it's not going through a play out suite) and the appropriate authorisation was given to the company whose engineers do such switching, the bulletin would be over.

The quickest fix would have just been for the director at BBC London just to opt back. But chances are they wouldn't have known there was a problem until after it was over. Partially because of the time it takes to realise there's a problem but also even odd it was noticed in the gallery it might have been a monitoring fault. There won't be anyone spare to investigate or take a phone call, there'll probably only be 2 people there both concentrating on the bulletin.

Well, the news remained perfectly intelligible throughout, so for the sake of just five minutes or so, on balance, I think the right thing was to remain with the output.

FFS it didn't affect the audio, so the bulletin was usable. You'd rather have had pristine pictures from another region, with stories of no interest or relevance then ?

A typical TVF response. I'm sure normal viewers share your mightier than thou viewpoint.

Well, yes, they probably would ! First requirement is an intelligible bulletin, that requirement was fulfilled.
