Well, the news remained perfectly intelligible throughout, so for the sake of just five minutes or so, on balance, I think the right thing was to remain with the output.

FFS it didn't affect the audio, so the bulletin was usable. You'd rather have had pristine pictures from another region, with stories of no interest or relevance then ?

Well, yes, they probably would ! First requirement is an intelligible bulletin, that requirement was fulfilled.


I'll remember your quote the next time BBC London cocks up another bulletin.

Nothing mightier than thou about a sensibly made point.

The bulletin was intelligible and the content relevant to the audience. If they had not been able to play reports, or provide sound, then the situation would be different, but reduced picture quality coverage of stories relevant to the region (ideally with an apology) has to be better than either a different bulletin (with no stories relevant to the region) or a graphic caption (or the News Channel)

It's not ideal - but in this situation sticking with the bulletin was probably the best course of action.

if the fault was in the gallery doing the opt, it may have been very difficult to have routed another region to line without adding that fault. (Depends where the fault was)

I'm afraid it's one of those rare occasions on here where I have to agree to disagree. While the content was perfectly fine (You only have to watch London Live to see how even a sub-standard BBC London bulletin is still miles ahead), the PQ is still unacceptable in my view for broadcast.

Hopefully when BBC London finally goes HD and has a new desk installed, this may end the numerous technical faults the bulletin has had since moving to BH.
