How do you know this? BT and Sky will not be interested in everything going will they? Sports is a key feature of ITV4's schedule, so I am sure ITV will fight for some things.
Shame, ITV4 would benefit from more sports coverage. But thanks to BT and Sky, they won't

Your point?
The general thrust of his post was fantasy, what he was suggesting could happen as a result of a takeover had happened due to other circumstances.
This is all pure fantasy.

That already happened.

It would give ITV a stronger Foot hold in Pre school Kids programmes.

If ITV wanted a strong kids portfolio they would have invested in what they've already got.

I'm not sure anyone has said that ITV wouldn't face stronger commitments though, however I personally don't think it's unreasonable to expect the main ITV channel and CITV to have extra PSB requirements (such as extra National News bulletins, a better sub-Regional News service* and Milkshake being kept as a slot on the CITV channel) imposed on them (instead of Channel 5). As you stated in this situation I would be hoping that ITV would also face more financial restraints such as the current Contract Rights Renewal...maybe some financial help for Channel 4/Local TV stations for example?.
Why do people assume that Channel 5 could simply drop its PSB requirements if they were acquired by ITV? If anything, they would more likely have stronger restraints and commitments imposed on them to alleviate competition concerns.

Which they are actually doing at the moment...

Cheap continuity around pre-existing shows on a Saturday morning isn't exactly investing is it? All their other current original content receives only minimal funding from ITV: much of these shows are commercially funded or part funded by the production companies themselves.

Relative to their efforts over the last half decade or so; yes it is!

Yeah because that is where all the money is.
This thread is now become a complete fantasy thread. Apart from a few posters, none of you are actually dealing with the commercial reality of either ITV or BT.
There is a bit of a difference between launching high end Sports subscription channels (initially used as a loss leader) and buying a free to air broadcaster totally reliant on fluctuating advertising revenues.
LMAO, you do realise how much losses the old one ran up? Even Sky News is loss making. Do you realise how few people watch the existing news channels?
Yes, in fact Desmond has turned Channel 5 around quite dramatically, and Big Brother has helped its fortunes considerably.
He hasn't really, the only thing that has changed is that the advertising market has recovered. The reason Desmond wants to sell now is so he can avoid the next advertising recession.
You have to admire the man £700m- such spin- dream on Des!

If you'd asked me a few years ago did I think BT would launch its own sports channels and show Premier League football I'd have thought you were having a laugh, so anything's possible now really.

If
they had the funding, they could move ITV2 into Channel 5's slot, put 3 in 2's old slot and 4 in 3's old slot and have an ITV News Channel? Massive if though.

Apparently broadcasters are typically valued at 9 times their annual profit.
Des must be expecting a massive increase on the £26m profit achieved last year, otherwise he's probably not going to get offers in excess of £300m.
