It will be interesting to see how the BBC plans for any Scottish independence with regards to programming in Glasgow. Like you say, big shiny building in Glasgow that could be taken over by a Scottish PSB after 2014. Would they want to commit to programming in Scotland if there's a chance that they might have to sell/downsize their operations north of the border?
I don't think the BBC would want to be seen to be pre-empting the result of the referendum, i think they will just continue with the status quo. After all, there really is nothing preventing UK programmes being made in an Independent Scotland.
I can also see the BBC remaining at Pacific Quay even if Independence does go ahead. They cant exactly move out overnight, so this new imaginary Scottish PSB isnt going to be able to just shove the BBC aside. The only thing that will likely change in the short term is how the BBC continues to broadcast in Scotland.
A bit of BBC catering chatter on the Freeview Testcards thread (random) but it's worth mentioning that the last restaurant in the restaurant building of TVC, Classics, closes its doors on Christmas Eve. Not the nicest canteen in terms of food and atmosphere but it was cheap enough. This means all that remains in that building is hospitality for the dressing rooms and the odd meeting room. One of the old restaurants on the lower floors is used as a rehearsal space for studio productions these days.
Also I've heard some people say that The Killing Station will be closing on Friday but I'm not so sure that's the case.
I might have to pay Classics a visit on Monday. It was always a bit grim, but I suppose it needs a send-off!
harrumph. Not only did it close on Friday, but when I tried to take a photo through the door, a manager appeared from nowhere to tell me off because photography in the building isn't allowed without a permit from JCI.
