Those are incredible photographs of the set being assembled. Thanks for posting those. I had no idea the whole thing was so mammothly large. I am guessing it's probably the world's largest annual studio-based live television event, ha?

A football stadium is hardly a TV studio.

Apologies. Didn't realise it was a stadium.

and it seems from the small print that it's got
everything on it that the DVD has.

Evidence at last of the elusive Blu-Ray Disc.

Is it on sale on a UK site yet?

It does say 8 hours Smile. They never said whether it would be encoded at 1080/ 50i either - even though I asked, and if it isn't Sad. And the DVD will at least be 50i, not 60.

edit: I just re-checked. It says the Blu-ray is 3 discs not 2 (I hope that means 3x BD50s with maximum bitrate!) Very Happy ! The person who I asked before who was something to with creation of the disc had said "I feel quite confident that it will be released as a 2BD50".

Finally we've got our first couple of videos of the stage in action! Very Happy These video's are taken during what I assume are technical rehearsals- showing both Estonia and Germany's songs (performed by standins). Personally I think it looks excellent, a massive improvement on last year.

I would be very surprised if it was anything other than 1080i25 aka 1080/50i or 720p50 aka 720/50p. No reason for a 60Hz release - every competing country in Eurovision is 50Hz AFAIK.

My bet would be on a 1080/50i release - unless the Germans originate the show at 720/50p - which would be the first time it has been produced in 720p. (ARD and ZDF broadcast at 720/50p)

NRK also broadcast at 720/50p - which led many to believe Oslo was originated 720/50p. However NRK operate internally at 1080/50i and cross-convert on transmission. (On the basis that 720p compresses better than 1080i, displays below 50" diagonal at normal viewing distance are supposed not to benefit from the increased resolution of 1080i, and that broadcast de-interlacers do a better job than domestic... )

I wonder if the recent Royal Wedding, will have any effect on the UK vote.

A lot of people have linked the UK's poor eurovision performance with the Iraq, that's long gone now and I wonder if people may think of us a nicer light now.

Some bits and pieces of presentation including the animated logo which looks very nice. Pause it very quickly and you should see some of the graphics and the end of the postcards at 0.37. They've styled the postcards around the colour of the countries flags though I don't think it's particularly obvious.
