Stephen Dixon had his iPad out on News at Ten yesterday, seems like this will be their new tablet pc. Wonder how Kay Burley will adapt to more technology.

So are Sky actually using the iPad instead of the old tablets?

Seems a bit strange, the iPad is cool but it can't run the newsroom software with access to the wires and running order.. unless there is a web interface for that?

No they aren't. The iPad SD had was his own one as he's a bit of tech geek as we know. Kay was definitely still using her HP convertible one today.

No it definitely was NOT his, get your facts right. He said the next day when they were previewing it he wasn't buying one...

Pretty sure Martin was using an iPad on Election night and was using it to control graphics on the Newswall. I believe the iPad belongs to Sky News and is not Martin's own.

It is most likely a tablet or slate pc. Custom software would need to be used to control the graphics, something the iPad wouldn't support, especially being so new before the elections.

could it be that he was using an app like TouchMouse which turns the ipod touch/iPad in this case into a wireless mouse. He could be controlling the custom software on another computer through the iPad.

Judging by the icons at the bottom it looks like the Sky News iPhone app but adapted for an iPad.

Chances are it was with an application running which emulates the mouse - or the OSC one which is doing the rounds.

I've seen an iPad and iPhone run a real time 3d graphics system which was all done through simple remoting of which there are applications on the iTunes Store which run the relevant protocols.

With a risk of sounding dumb if it's been mentioned here before; but have you ever noticed all the neon type lighting in the studio kind of very slowly fades in and out or pulsates? Please tell me someone has noticed this, else I think I am going a bit loopy.

A lot of bespoke graphics systems these days have web-browser control rather than requiring custom apps to run on specific platforms.

From the screen grabs it looks as if the iPad was running a version of the iPhone app - but equally web browser control wouldn't be that unusual these days.
