A personal fav has to be the BBC Spoltight theme before they took the standard BBC News look

Love how they held out as much as they could by sticking a massive BBC Logo on screen

It reminds me of another French piece, Aujourd'hui C'est Toi , better known as the BBC Panorama theme:

I know I've mentioned my fondness for this on a number of occasions, but the original North East Tonight theme is just fantastic. I loved as well how there were numerous variations over the years too.
Also a fan of this TV Forum favourite from Central News in 1998.
The Newsnight theme is also a favourite of mine. I particularly liked the different versions they used over the end credits for a while a couple of years ago. Don't suppose anyone's got copies of these?

I don't know if this will help, but here is the current closing theme which was introduced in 2006, IIRC.

Not an "official" piece of television news music, but I loved the BBC News at 50 intro - from the classic transmitter era music merging to the Lowe music that was used until c.2003(?). Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOmFmjgGUcA&feature=related

Yeah, that one is pretty good, used by both Scottish and Grampian?
It's a track called Current Affairs by Paul Leonard-Morgan I believe.
I think the current STV News theme tune is the best around.

OK, so I my all time favourites...(in no particular order)
SS Nine O'Clock News
KGW Portland - all versions
News at Ten
WSVN Miami - yes, I know! But, whatever you think about the station, the whole package is just phenomenal - and the tune in't bad either. The version used since they've gone HD is rubbish.
Clicky
CNN World News - as posted earlier
KTLA (CW 5) Los Angeles - An amazing modern theme I suspect many will think is too wishy washy. Clicky
Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor - yes, the man is a psycho, but the theme is good. Clicky
Countdown with Keith Olbermann - probably one of my least favourite, but it's going on the list because I love the visuals and it ends nicely. Clicky
