Looks like you're right. There is no point showing the tweaks in primetime when the junctions will be filled with idents for Heroes and The Restaurant. Are we looking at the onscreen changes happening tomorrow or Friday or at the weekend?

As a filthy American, I like getting rid of the box, but I agree - the placement of the BBC logo doesn't work there.

But if you think about it, isn't this just an extension to the idea on both One and Three - neither of those have a box for the idents, correct?

I think the best thing BBC could do is mix up the best of the past and current idents, which have not changed all that much in style over the years to provide a more varied collection and ditch the box for the old [B] [B] [C] Two bottom caption, but with a slight black shadow/glow to be legible against the light backgrounds lots of the new idents use (see pic below)

I agree, the way BBC TWO is written suits every ident, there is no need for the box.

That's why it's never made sense with the revamp to BBC2, and more recently, BBC News, when other channels were moving away from the box.


They'd be best off trying to incorporate the "BBC" seemlessly into the individual idents so it lines up with the "2" - I think with the nature of this set it's difficult to go for a one size fits all approach, though if they did I think centred on the left of the screen (as someone posted) is probably the best option.

I think we're all missing the bigger picture here, will northern ireland use a subtitles dog with the new idents?

I vote yes, dead in the centre of the screen in a bright orange pyramid shape so as to match the rest of the design.

I don't like the BBC logo just being stuck on. It seems a bit odd when the other channel names are spelled out (as has been said already). I think the BBC should aim to have consistency across their channels, but that doesn't mean the logos need to be constrained to ugly boxes. Personally, I think it would be good if BBC TWO used a logo like BBC one's. Yes, I did this on paint so it's rough-looking, and I borrowed the image above, don't kill me - it's just to give the idea of what I think it ought to be like:

Anybody see that right there? The bottom-right 'BBC'-only logo with a SUBTITLES flag.
