So what was the programme like content wise? Has it changed any since last season, or become worse??

Didn't see much of the content, but it seemed very awkward with that newsround woman and Andy being more confident than the other new guy and thus taking the lead role and abandoning him.

The music is a bit better too, more down with the kids of 2008, and not so 'we're trying to be cool but clearly not'.

There seems to be that feel from the title shot and the website that they're taking the ship emblem and using it in a more creative way. They just need to scew the programme at today's audience rather than last series that seemed to try too hard, as you say greg to be too down with the kids, and destroy the programme by getting rid of the things that made the programme a success in the first place. Which is what they should be doing, and hopefully this series will.

I did think that at the beginning of the theme tune it sounded like they had scrapped the original theme!

It was not a bad programme and certainly not as hyper as the first edition of the last series, but it is now Blue Peter in name only and not a patch on what it was two years ago. It’s completely lost touch with its ethos, and why it has survived fifty years.

Unsurprisingly there was no news about the pets, the summer expedition or any mention that it was the programmes’ 50th birthday series.

As for the theme music, it’s not the traditional signature tune “Barnacle Bill”, but “Sailor’s Hornpipe”, so another famous element axed.

It’s early days for the new presenters, but the Newsround girl seemed to have little sparkle, but the guy looks like he has potential.

Content wise it's difficult to judge from the first show - they had a fairly decent VT about Kite Fighting with all the presenters on location, then a bit about the website and the profiles of the new hosts and finally a studio chat with the Olympic and Paralympic competition winners plus Chris Hoy and Ellie Simmonds. Quite surprised though they didn't have a VT of one of the hosts out in Beijing with the competition winners - and it probably suffered for it.

Overall though quite impressed. The graphics and revamped theme are a huge improvement - and yes, though the set is smaller than the classic set we're used too, it does it's job.

The hosts don't seem to bad either - Joel especially is quite different to the usual Blue Peter mould. To start with I was thinking "what a nob", but within a few minutes I was thinking he was too good for Blue Peter. Helen started off nervously but seemed to gain confidence throughout - kind of reminds me of Liz from a few years ago, and kind of the lead host in many ways.

My understanding was that the incident took place whilst he was presenting BP - not years before he presented the show?

There's a small bit in the new Blue Peter book (released last week) £14.99 in all good bookshops by the way! featuring Richard Bacon saying that he wanted people to see that what he did was during his own time but at the same token did not want to damage the shows reputation.

Then there's another funny excerpt in which they wished they didn't get Auntie Lorraine Heggessy to speak down to the children with many people writing in including one kid who said how one of his friends drinks Coke on regular basis but none of the teachers say anything about it!

Hmm... I like the new titles, and the new mix of the theme tune is a definite improvement. I think Andy sounded a little patronising a the beginning, and the opening was very cheesy. However, it definitely improved from there.
