I didn't notice that about Adam Rickett either. His eyes going everywhere but the person he's talking to and bulging distracts me from what he says.
Anyone know what 'ifid' is? Rita said it tonight when replying to Blanche. Is it a new Mancunian word?
Jez, I think Elsie was jealous of Rita. She never wanted Len really but wasn't that keen on anyone else having him either. Deirdre was great. Such a whiner but very funny. She and Ray made a good team. And we had Blanche too until Ray bought number 5. I don't like the new builder. He's definitely no Len. Hasn't had a fight yet!
Peter Kay was quite good tonight but I think the script, especially in part 2 let him down a bit. When it was Eric and Shelley it was very funny. But with the inclusion of his mother, it just became cringing IMHO.

Tell me if I misheard. I'm sure I didn't. Mind you, I was transfixed by his glassy stare and palid looking complextion. Further to previous comments, its true - he doesn't eyeball the other actors in a scene. He seems to stare off above their heads. Extremely offputting for other actors. Its difficult to feel something when your fellow performers wont look at you.
I went to drama school with someone who did that. He was rubbish too.
Well done the acress who played Eric's mum. Top class comedy from Corrie tonight.

LOL
Tonights second episode of Corrie was great! I loved the stuff with Eric and Shelly! Tyrone and Fizz were funny too! Well done Granada for tonights episodes!
Yes I think Elsie said she could never be with Len, he was her best friend! I think she was jealous when he turned his attentions to Rita. Elsie didnt even attend Len and Rita's wedding, she turned up at the reception though didnt she. Pat Phoenix quit Corrie the same time as Len was fired didnt she? I think there were rumours at the time they would leave together, although Elsie stayed in the show a bit longer after Lens death, into 1984, 20 years this month since she left!

At least when Adam Rickett had his floppy hair that distracted your attention from his moving eyes. Maybe he should grow it to cover them.
Yes, Jez. Pat Phoenix didn't attend the filming of the wedding out of protest because she thought it was all wrong for Len to marry at all. But she was at the TV Times special shoot, which messed things up a bit. There's 2 stories I've heard about her quitting. One was again a protest because of Peter Adamson being sacked. Another was that she already knew she had cancer. Only she knew which was the real reason.

Rita, I suppose she might have had cancer already when she quit, she died sometime in September 1986 I think. I dont think there was as much outcry from the fans when Elsie left as when Hilda left in 1987.
Anyway, im looking forward to the court case in Mondays double episode. Here is a pic of her in court

There was a very good clip of a Granada Closedown from that day when Pat Phoenix where (The Late) Jim Pope gave a very heartfelt closedown announcement, as apparently she told him that he had a good voice. It was somewhere on The Continuity Booth, but that is currently offline.
Though there was a programme on Channel 4 sometime ago and they showed some clips of Pat Phoenix's Funeral and many people did turn out, it was like something which has been seen at Princess Diana's funeral.
Though there was programme on over Christmas where it explained that Stan Ogden / Bernard Yeowns (sp?) had died and after that she got bored and left. Though I don't think that was true, but Hilda was never the same after Stan had died.

According to her housekeeper Kitty in an interview in 86/87 (I have it but can't be bothered getting it out to find out) she kept it secret from everyone for several years. I remember when she was getting really sick about 2 months before she died, they said she had pleurisy. I don't believe it was her idea to get married. Tony Booth said in original interviews shortly after her death it was HIS idea but then he changed that like he changed lots of things.
Ta for the pic, Jez. I've seen all the spoiler pics. I'm a Barbara fan so am bound to have!
Roll on Monday when we'll get some cracking acting from her which shows how awful Kate Ford and Adam Rickett really are!

Spoilers for the Todd/Karl storyline
Monday, 9th February 2004
And Tommy's pleased to see Katy socialising with people her own age,
when she joins Sarah, Todd and Karl at a Badly Drawn Boy gig.
Ciaran continues to wind Martin up about Karl's friendship with
Katy. Later, when Katy fails to return from the concert on time
Martin becomes increasingly jealous. Are Martin's concerns justified?
Wednesday, 11th February 2004
Katy is still in a mood with Martin over his jealousy towards Karl.
Stunned by her revelation regarding Karl's sexuality, Martin puts an
end to Ciaran's taunts about Katy and Karl's friendship. Todd over
hears this exchange and is equally surprised to learn that Karl is
gay.
Also next Saturday we have a Corrie special at 2.10pm (before the Omnibus) - Coronation Street the wedding album
"Focusing on some of the Street's most memorable marriages, from Mavis and Derek to Len and Rita, from Kevin and Sally (twice) to Ken and Deirdre, from Mike and Alma to Bet and Alec - and many more."

Coronation Street the wedding album - Has this been on before?? I’m sure I’ve heard that title before? I bet its one of those Yorkshire Television efforts.
