how annoying
It tends to happen on long threads. Probably caused by people deleting their posts - bit of an annoying bug. Maybe this thread could be closed and a new Corrie St. one opened? Been annoying me for ages.
Well they are mistaken! When Rita first arrived in 1972 she was the common law wife of Harry Bates, but walked out on him in favour of Len Fairclough I think, she was never legally married to Harry so reverted to her maiden name of Littlewood. The she married Len in 1977 and became Rita Fairclough, and Ted in 1992 and became Rita Sullivan.
Also if whenever sings,(for example on the cruise video and when she had a nervous breakdown after the Alan saga), she uses the title "Miss Rita Littlewood" as that is her stage name!
Rita was never married to Harry Bates, Col. She was his common-law-wife and called herself that. After they split up, she returned to her real name of Littlewood. Len was her first husband.
Yes, Jez. I remember seeing Bill Tarmey in the background too playing darts. The set of the old factory used to amuse me. No glass in the office door of the factory floor. The machine postitions would move overnight or the office did. There were a lot of funny storylines set in the factory. Mike was a great character then and his repartee with the workers was brilliant. Not like now.
Classic confrontation line from Rita before Alan tried to kill her - "You're a fraud, Iron". LOL! A few months later after Alan was out and visited Mike, she called him 'Aran Bladley'. Rita was meant to be drunk at the time. Like hungover when she said 'slippleish slope' to Mavis. I've often wondered if that was in the script or fluffs by Barbara.
I wasnt keen on either of Rita's husbands tbh, I remember seeing the eps on G+ when Len hit her and she walked out. I wasnt sad when Len died, although I did think it was sad in that scene with Rita and Elsie (Patricia Phoenix) after he died.
I dont remember Rita fluffing lines much, was she in the live episode back in Dec 2000, ive forgotton now. I remember Patricia Phoenix who played Elsie Tanner fluffed her lines sometimes!
I never liked Len and wasn't happy aged 7 she was marrying him. It was a funny couple of eps though, with him falling down the stairs the night before. Rita and Ted were well suited. He was better than Len. I liked the chat between Rita and Emily after Len's death but not with Rita and Elsie. Pat Phoenix was pretty dire in that scene and Barbara was pretty dire throughout! Glad to say she improved once Rita wasn't constrained by Len.
Yes, Barbara was in the live episode, Jez. She wasn't feeling well by all accounts. And at the end when Bill Roache cracked open the champers, poor Barbara got it right in the eye. She made her way towards the back, rubbing her eye and remained professional jigging about like the rest of them.
I hadn't noticed you'd already replied to Col's point about her name being Bates. Never mind, eh? She was seeing Len and Harry hit her so Len confronted Harry at his work and punched him. Jerry Booth was very suspicious of Rita to begin with,

Rita - I have the episode of the Fairclough's wedding on the 1977 video, it was a bit harsh not inviting Stan and Hilda when they invited everyone else in the Street to the wedding!! Poor old Hilda, she is one of my fave chracters of all time. I really liked Deirdre Langton during this period, she was much better when she was married to Ray. I still like her now but she isnt as good, I think they have ruined her a bit. This new builder Charlie is meant to be the new Len, but he is more like a poor version of Ray.
There was friction between Elsie and Rita first wasnt there?, ive only seen a few clips of Rita's early appearances, It would be nice to see if from the beginning on Granada Plus, they only went back to 1976 storylines!
Gavin - I didnt notice that line that Nick fluffed, i'll check my video recording of it later so thanks for pointing that out. Yes Peter Kay scene with Bev and Shelly was very funny, looking forward to tonight second episode!
