He was quite good on House of Games as well. I wonder if a lot of people who work in news want to break away from their image of being dour and serious. Peston did All Star Musicals the other day which was way out of his comfort zone but it was good to see him in a different light although he wasn't great TBH,

A lot of newsreaders seem to do a quiz show at some point in their career. I guess they tick the "authoritative" box more serious quizzes might be looking for.

That you ‘can’t help but think’ he’s been chosen for anything other than merit says a lot about you.

Clive Myrie is a great news presenter who is always calm and reassuring. Excellent choice. Thank goodness Mastermind has not been dumbed down - we could have had Gemma Collins presenting Laughing Laughing

Quite a number of BBC newsreaders have done quizzes over the years: Angela Rippon did her fair share with "Masterteam"; "What's My Line" (originally alternating with Penelope Keith); "Matchpoint" and "Antiques Roadshow". Kenneth Kendall was great as the host of "Treasure Hunt" - he could always send himself up away from behind the news desk, alongside Richard Baker. Michael Aspel - "Give Us A Clue"; "Child's Play"; "Blockbusters" (bad choice!). Philip Hayton did "The Great British Quiz", taking over from Janice Long. Martyn Lewis presented the enjoyable "Today's The Day" - and had a Gotcha from Noel Edmonds.

Angela Rippon is still voicing questions for The Wall. Plenty of others, Dermot Murnaghan and Jeremy Vine on Eggheads, Kirsty Young on The People Versus, argubly Bob Holness (ex LBC/IRN newsreader).

Gordon Burns, Richard Whiteley, Richard Madeley all did national quiz/game shows having presented regional news. You could argue for Chris Tarrant in that category, or even Fern Britton if you consider Ready Steady Cook to be a gameshow.

Didn't Mary Nightingale present Britain's Best Dish or something on those lines and I believe she also did Wish You Were Here.

Fiona Bruce did a BBC Four quiz called Hive Minds which only lasted one series.

Hive Minds was two series, she also did two series of Call My Bluff after Bob Holness retired

I've not watched it myself but Jon Snow has a show called Very Hard Questions on More4.

Bit of a shame that TVFET (TV Forum Eternal Treasure) Alastair Stewart has never really been used on a quiz, apart from this one. Was it only aired in London?



Nick Ross also did The Syndicate. And Krishnan did a quite ropey one on C4 natch
