Sally Magnusson could be a very good shout. A chance to bring it back to the Magnusson realm and she’s very authoritative with an inquisitive side - like her father. Otherwise Emily Maitlis as suggested before I could see too.
I get the feeling the BBC won’t want to break the habit of a lifetime and will want a bloke to host it... I’ll be rolling my eyes if it’s Jeremy Vine or Evan Davis.
"David Jenkins - you have 90 seconds on the London Underground Northern Line - starting now.. Sooo, right, I guess my first question would be that in a sense errrm we've already established an agreement - although not agreed by everybody - that ........ ahhh, as the capital of the country, London infact found and had a need for a line that went, ahmmm. indeed, north of the Thames and yes, south of the Thames and well,.... that would be the Northern Line, so I guess you know.....what I'm wanting to ask you as the contestant, is ummm when exactly, do you think that the Northern Line, not only opened, but opened to carry fare paying passengers?
It happened again last night (celebrity version) that someone's specialist subject was ONE film, that is not a subject. How long would it take any of us to watch a 90 min film a few times over and know pretty much all about it. The celeb version is ridiculous.

The celeb version predates the return of the regular version, so it's not like it's ever harmed it. It's supposed to be a bit of fun.

I appreciate that it's mainly a bit of fun and for charity but as in last night's there were a couple of decent subjects so it can be unfairly balanced. Take Pointless for example, the celebrity version is pretty much true to the civilian version. Mastermind is not, and also what gets me is that the celebrity version is not a knockout competition version and you can win a trophy on the most flimsy of effort.
It's not the civilian version though, but having easier subjects actually probably helps bring an audience to the original series rather than harms it. The show needs a few topics people can play along with at home - and for a one-off it makes little difference if the specialist subject is a one-off movie or the entire works of a Russian author.
Agree though the celeb version should be a series of heats and a final, though I think they now do some Champions of Champions versions.
