Like has been said already, 6-7am is not whats important to ITV. Its after 7am. Not worth the hassle coming to an agreement with STV for a time slot that's not that important.

Yes, and it does have to start at some time, if you do a news bulletin at 5.30am and that doesn't rate well, do you do another at 5am, and so on until there's one long show running from News at Ten to the Lunchtime News?

7.17 this morning, by the way.

It's an awful programme. They had another interviewee refuse to do the interview live on air and hang up their connection this morning, because they found the lower third graphic offensive.

Susanna is an awful interviewer (erm, you know, umm, erm, you know) and Ben would obviously much rather be presenting his game show or GMTV cosy fluff.

One of the other interviewees this morning told Susanna that she's "not Piers", as she kept talking over her and not listening to her answer to the drawn-out question.

Mind you, I guess the programme will still be talked about in social media and by papers as long as there are 'viral' moments..

I'm starting to see shades of when Eamonn left GMTV. GMTV was also awful but at least Eamonn was kind of like a glue who held things together and was a very strong breakfast television anchor. When he left the mask slipped and unfortunately Fiona Phillips, whilst good at what she did, wasn't good enough in the lead role with Andrew Castle or Ben Shephard who were adequate at best. History is repeating itself, 16 years later.

Another ‘walk off’...

The Patsy Palmer row highlights lots of issues going on at the moment, but most of all, poor production behind the scenes.
CraigWills, 030293 and Meridian AM gave kudos

Just for a matter of interest would that strap have to be cleared by a ‘graphics producer’ or such like before going to air?

Interesting that the contributors see the 'program out' of the show on their device. I think on the BBC all the interviewee sees is a big BBC logo to stare at ?

Why would they only show that? Sometimes it’s important for contributors to see the preceding VT or some overlay. Bit odd if that is what the BBC do.

Just out of interest why was an entertainment story on at exactly 8:00, was it from the end of the previous hour - or leading the top of the new hour?

I doubt that's true, and if it is then it must be an anomaly on a few specific shows for a reason. See the One Show for example, where interviewees are often asked for their reaction to a VT, or a few weeks ago where Russell T Davies made a point of trying to "look at" Alex Jones when he was on the screen next to her being interviewed - there must have been a visual guide for him to be able to do that.

In my experience, the aim is always for the interviewee to see a version of programme out - even during pre-records. Mainly so they can actually see the presenters and their reaction to them, secondly so they can react to any overlays or VTs played in during and before the interview, and thirdly to avoid them having the programme playing on another device to see themselves (which would obviously cause feedback from the delayed broadcast).

Interview started at 8.00, done by 8.01.
Presumably Patsy was booked for 8am GMT (late night in California) and that's why it led the 'top of the new hour'.
They ended up throwing to Ranvir Singh for quick news headlines straight after Patsy's 'walk out'.
