They just need someone who is bloody good to hold politicians to account, for all his faults he was very good at it. However, I’m sure they’ll find a suitable replacement, even if it takes a while. But you simply can’t have someone make comments such as those in relation to Meghan’s attempted suicide, it’s one step too far and the right decision has been taken now, whether it was ITV or Piers.
I’m no supporter of Piers Morgan by any stretch of the imagination, but even a comment from ITV to say “We thank him... blah blah blah” would have sufficed, surely.
He quit before being fired from that role clearly. He's not the kind of character to suffer being cancelled by a major network twice. CNN anyone?? Good riddance.
Is there a sudden drop-off in the viewing figures when Piers isn't on? If there isn't, then I don't see why they'd need to replace Piers with somebody who is equally opinionated.
As this is a TV Presentation forum I don't feel it correct of me to comment on the decision itself, however the impact it will have could turn out interesting.
The USP of having a Piers Morgan type figure as your main man is that people want to watch for the outrage. Some of the figures the show pulls in on social media are incredible, and this morning was astonishing.
What direction will the programme take? I think we all know they won't appoint Nigel Farage tomorrow morning but does Good Morning Britain decide to change the way the show works? Yes, he isn't there twice a week and has very long periods of time off each year - but the outrage that has been caused the past few days has had an impact on the programme itself.
What has always differed ITV Breakfast and BBC Breakfast is that the BBC are very news heavy, unbias and ITV like discussions (more recently turned into raves) and showbiz news. This will obviously remain the key difference but I'm sure GMB producers will have a sit down and think about whether the reputation of the programme could continue, whether a Piers-like figure would be given a go or just to accept that the format that we've seen will have to call it a day...

It's off because ITV are showing Return to Dunblane with Lorraine Kelly. It's due to return for one more episode next week.
I would've normally said this would have been the straw that broke the camels back, but in this case I think the straw has not only broke it's back but killed the camel entirely.
