The only indication the show continued after Ant and Dec left were on the astons for H and Claire.

Also Stephen Mulhern mentioned he followed SM:TV but admitted it was nowhere near as good.

I thought the documentary was great overall, but wasn't particularly a fan of them adding an echo to the last word of every. single. clip.

Am I right in remembering that some episodes of SMTV in 2003 were broadcast as late as 3pm due to morning coverage of either the F1 or Rugby World Cup?

Yes the rugby. And sometimes CDUK might follow it even later at 5pm which is the kind of slot Ant and Dec wanted for it originally!

Some of those episodes were pre-recorded which was made obvious by Eat My Goal taking place in the dark. Also the viewer vote for old sketches was replaced with a "celebrity choice" which probably not co-incidently often ended up being a sketch that had been put up for the viewer vote several times but not won. Certainly one of the celebs picked the Vicar of Dribbley which had probablt been up to viewer vote (that sketch was one of the few things on the show that genuinely repulsed me, because they were genuinely spitting tea in each other's mouths... seems even worse in this covid era).

Eat My Goal always took place in the dark. It was in a TV studio. Oh you mean the Riverside terrace 😉

Eat my Goal was the go to game post Ant and Dec. It never took a break. I never understood why they got rid of Brian's Brain and replaced it with nothing good or permanent. I guess SMTV never had a Big Breakfast Johnny and Denise moment - there never came a second golden era it was too much an Ant and Dec show.

Wasn't Vicar of Dribbley Jordan North's favourite Ant and Dec sketch on SMTV? 😄

They couldn't remember it for some strange reason 🤔

Was interesting they thought they could "steal" the chart from the BBC.

Someone will be able to confirm but wasn't the final programme in Dec 2003 pre-recorded weeks in advance and was split so Ant/Dec/Cat and few presenters always seemed together and others where in different sections - quite disjointed..

Well, not WEEKS in advance, I think it was recorded in the week between the 13th and 20th December editions, presumably due to Ant & Dec's schedules, with both Pop and World Idol going out that month and that was the only time they were available. Was indeed disjointed though- not least because for some reason the Eminemmerdale sketch they recorded was cut out and replaced with a Spongebob episode at the last minute , after already having been promoted and clips from it appeared in the trailer (though they did leave in a couple of mentions of it). And yes, Ant/Dec/Cat and Brian/Tess/Des/Shavaughn did their bits separately, and the two groups only appeared together to sing My Way at the very end.

Mediaman2007 has told us they were at the recording, so they'll be able to tell us exactly what it was like and when it actually was.

Yeah recorded Monday 8th December. Tess, Brian and co in the morning, Ant Dec Cat in the afternoon. They'd rehearse each sketch first then record it in front of the audience. Riverside was a strange studio to me, I felt little atmosphere compared to TLS. In fact early SMTV may have fitted in well at Riverside.

Was there a reason it moved to Riverside? Cost I guess.

Yes, it was around that point you could see the ideas were drying up. As you say it was on every week, went on for ages, and Brian obviously didn’t get into the goalkeeping as much as Ant did.

Cant think of any other reason. They probably knew SMTV was goig to be
axed Or on its way out and couldn't afford to commit to TLS for another year with just CDUK. As David Liddiment said the only way ITV coukd realky fund a music show, even back then, was to merge the budget with the saturday morning show. The maths probably worked with 3 hours of the same show essentially. Less so with 1 hour of CDUK which is probably why ut stumbled on for another two years with far less live shows.

I presume so. They were able to get away with a smaller studio when there was just CD:UK, though the limits were obvious during the final months of SM:TV when they were in a separate, smaller space where they didn't really have room to do anything but the main links, and had to go outside for Eat My Goal, and into the CD:UK studio for music performances, which didn't help things being disjointed.

Weirdly for the last show they filmed Dec Says, Challenge Ant and Emminemmerdale (last seen with the TVS archive) in the CDUK studio but Chums in the SMTV part so you had the saturday squad up on the set, all the crew obviously but it seemed everyone from the building and guests crammed in to watch the last Chums.

I wonder how much enthusiasm there was during the filming of Eminemmerdale Razz
