So overall which network(s) do you guys think had the best election coverage?

For me definitely Sky News, CNN and the BBC (but only on election night)

For me, it feels like Andrew Neil's final hurrah on the BBC was a great one, and I wish him the best on his new venture.

For US Networks, I monitored CNN and NBC News, and both did great.

Meanwhile in the world of newspapers the best headline of the day award goes to the Ayrshire Daily News....

I've not seen much mention here of the press conference held by Rudy Guliani yesterday, it was unfortunate for two reasons. It happened just as the TV networks were calling Biden as winner, but also because they might have got the location wrong.

So the moment the end of Trump presidency was announced while his 'legal team' were in the car park of a garden landscapers, situated between a crematorium and a sex shop. It's become The Thick of It

As for the actual thing, he had a bit to say about the coverage that was happening at the same time, making the point, correctly, that the 'networks' don't decide the election result... but then followed it up by saying that elections are decided in courts, which isn't exactly on message Rolling Eyes

As a location it actually doesn't look too bad on telly, but made for some odd photos from other angles:

According to a story in the New York Times, the location was probably intentional to get away from interference by Democratic supporters in the city centre.

Sky News showed five minutes of it un-cut about 20 minutes delayed but I didn't see any of the main US networks carry it for hours. There was an entertaining moment I saw later where Rudy basically told Sky's Mark Stone that he should consider becoming a lawyer for the Democrats because of his questioning.

And to think Rudy Giuliani was once Mayor of New York City.

More than that, he was called 'Americas Mayor' after 9/11

That's understandable, but the co-incidence of the name of the company sharing a name with a big hotel is either a mistake or someone on the campaign having a laugh

ABC and CBS both laid on special programmes for Joe Biden's victory speech.

NBC, however, just broke into football coverage a few seconds before Kamala Harris started speaking and went back to the football right after Joe Biden's speech. A caption was on-screen throughout telling viewers to switch to USA Network for the football.

Was it really Sacha Baron Cohen stitching him up, as much as it was Rudy Giuliani stitching himself up? Sometimes these politicians just end up doing it to themselves and making them look even more stupid in the process. Rudy has never been the same ever since Joe Biden, now President-Elect, took him down with the observation at the time that Rudy could be summed up by a noun, a verb and 9/11. That stuck to Rudy, and he's never been the same since.

It's not about being triumphalist; it's about being lively and interesting, and reflecting the historic nature of what just happened.

This isn't the equivalent of Obama being elected - a historic moment for sure. The historic part is Kamala Harris becoming Vice President - the speech she is making now is the bigger moment to my mind than the exact moment the BBC decides to call the election for yet another old white man.

The most historic part of all this is Donald Trump -- a right-wing populist whose words and actions steered the United States and the world in a completely new, unprecedented direction -- losing power after just one term and the profound consequences this change in leadership will have.

Exactly. It's not about Biden winning it's about Trump losing. The US went down a very dark path and pulled back, that's the historic aspect.

From Denmark, bits and pieces of TV2's coverage of the U.S. election:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6e42fcRSQ0

And here's the same from DR:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7HGKpft9w0

TV 2 chose to host their election coverage from an American-themed diner in central Copenhagen (in the Tivoli amusement park), with a pop-up green screen area for the virtual reality segments. The broadcast continued from there for something like 22 hours (with on-the-hour news updates from the news studio, as shown in the back half of that clip). By contrast, DR constructed a dedicated election set, with a touchscreen off to the side used for analysis of results.

I can also report that Sweden's SVT and TV4 presented election coverage from their usual news studios (though dressed up for the occasion).
