Interesting to see the music used by PBS in the sting at the very end of this video (and new set - although I can't make out if it's just for election coverage, or a permanent replacement for the old one)

I dipped in and out of NBC/MSNBC at different times. Someone might be able to clarify if they are showing separate programmes on the broadcast network and cable channel. Either way, the look and feel is the same:

They typically use the same looks. No simulcasting.

My guess is that BBC will rely on CBS reporters and Sky will rely on NBC reporters in certain states. Do ITN still have a US news affiliate?

I don’t know the specifics but MSNBC has pulled reports from News at Ten in the past month.

They’re in a secondary studio typically used for Washington Week. Supposedly it’s temporary.

CNN is the easiest for me to stream, so I'll start with them:

Groan. CNN still haven't got rid of the Photoshop monkey from the last US election, who somehow made actual photos of Trump and Clinton look like computer generated ones, by bleaching teeth, adding pointless light spots and shades, adding volume to hair and smoothing out wrinkles to the point of making them look 20 years younger.

Biden looks like he's one of those actors they dredge up for a overlit advertisement for laxative tablets.

Neither have CNN changed their Election theme tune forEVER. They've tweaked it, but that's it. It's really sounding stale some ten years on. I'm assuming they think people connect with it?

As I'm sure you know, each party usually holds a massive convention of delegates to formally nominate their presidential candidate. Due to the virus, this year totally virtual conventions are taking place. This seems to have posed a bit of a challenge for the broadcasters as they are simply given a 2-hour party-produced feed to show (although it seems that content and timings have also been provided). In the past, the broadcasters would typically have talking head analysis for hours with speeches then taken live, dipping out of the other party promotional content. This year the condensed content seems to be mostly taken in full.

I've taken a few grabs of the coverage of the DNC virtual convention (so far). I've put in spoiler tags as quite a few images.

A tricky event politically for Fox News , they went with Hannity for half of the programme (who talks about other issues, then he cuts in when there is someone he wants to get annoyed with). Last night he was arguing with a pre-recorded speech from Bill Clinton, talking all over it, in a truly bizarre rant:

They went with some more traditional coverage for the second hour of the convention:

And this year NBC News has begun using MSNBC’s 2016 music (Actullay you will hear that every day if you watch the 11th Hour)… BTW did Brian Williams take part in the coverage of Day 1?

It's got a memorable sound. Totally over-the-top, and an assault on the senses. I love it.

You mean the drum beat from The 11th Hour that’s actually production music. I didn’t hear that on the third night?

Brian Williams has been there every night by at-least nine coming from his home studio.

I do wish NBC put the pushback DNC pool feed on SAP for those that want to listen to the program.

No I mean The 11th Hour’s closing theme, which airs every weekday even after the 2016 election…

My first thought was 'music they play in a cinema over a slideshow of local business ads before the trailer reel starts'

I imagine if Soviet Russia had this kind of Tech back in the early 80's they would have been using it 24/7... You do get a shock however, when you see the picture CNN serves up and then the actual real-life politicians turning up on screen who tend to look 20 years older. It's like tinder for political junkies. Very Happy

The warehouse/factory theme seems a bit odd, but that explains why they have blue 'neon tube' graphics around some of the still images of speakers. I've never been that big a fan of the steadycam of a screen showing something else, but I know all the cable networks do it.

Here's a few more grabs from the final night of the DNC. Given the outside staging/fireworks show, the party-provided feed from the convention centre probably wasn't quite as simple to arrange and cobble together as it would've been for a few simple on-stage speeches. I guess the organisers would have had to hire in all the expertise and equipment for that.

Will be interesting to see what the Republicans come up with on Monday night. Apparently Trump wants a lot more live action rather than taped segments/films.

Multi-Emmy winner (and broadcasting legend) Glenn Weiss directed the DNC coverage from home, it seems.
