Because Sky and the BBC (or whoever is supplying the relevant information) have made differing decisions on which states to call.
Asking as a neutral: Why are Sky and BBC News showing two different results for Biden at the moment?

It has been fun though seeing people unfamiliar with CNNI experiencing some of the ads regular viewers are very used to like Julia Chatterley prancing around New York talking about ‘WINNING TRADES’, anything Quest related, the overly earnest Amanpour advert, numerous Zenith Bank adverts and the filler bumpers like The 100 Club.
Remember this is a CNN US simulcast. The commercial breaks on CNN US are longer than CNN International normally are.
CNN US viewers see actual adverts in the breaks, like UK viewers of Sky News do. CNN International is filling the length of these breaks with the filler you mentioned. When it goes back to CNN International proper, the breaks within International's own produced programmes will be a lot shorter than these we are seeing.
I guess casual viewers, including Dara, don't know this.

BBC says its calls are from "NEP/Edison via Reuters". Sky doesn't say, but the numbers are the same for Sky and NBC right now.

I do find it bizarre that BBC News doesn't even have the current projections constantly on screen.
In the UK coverage, BBC News ran US Election 2020 branded coverage up until 1800 GMT and then we got Ros in London, then Katty and Christian. Now its 0000GMT and Kasia Maderia is presenting a generic branded BBC News. I think this is poor from BBC as the election is still going on, we don't officially know a winner.
Whereas Sky on the other hand is still in full election mode, as it should be, with occasional stints back in Sky Centre with a bit of other news and the Papers. The 0000GMT open has all the same America Decides branding and theme just like it has continued with when coverage began 14 hours ago.
Who knows what happened to ITV's coverage, after GMB ended at 0900GMT this morning, I saw Lorraine pop up and I guess the usual daytime schedule continued.

Yes, the segments are there in place for stations without a news department as well as NBC News Now
A UK viewer here, watching the NBC feed via its website. They toss to a break and then immediately return with another segment - is this regional opt-outs?

Correct. They even share certain news bureaux
Isn't the BBC partnered with CBS nowadays?

I suspect the point in time when we will definitely know the result is 17:00hrs GMT on Jan 20th 2021
Well I hope we ain't in the scenario when we find out the outcome of the election during the PM press conference at 5pm this afternoon as it will cause a bit of a pain on what to show for UK broadcasters.
