Reeta very occasionally does shifts which are only News Channel based, lately it’s been 4-6 on weekdays and sometimes at Weekend. I’m guessing she’s staying on at the minute for the news that’s just broken and whoever is scheduled will come in shortly.

It's really not good for the national broadcaster. How is the dancing show more important than one of the biggest announcements ever, which affects the whole country?? Cutting of the Prime Minister and telling viewers to switch to their (pathetic) news channel to see the rest of it?!! I know Strictly is popular, but surely it could wait!!
A lot of people wouldn't have bothered turning over to the news channel and won't see the important explanations that the PM and his scientists are giving. Staying on One would have captured a lot more viewers for this important moment.
Again, Sky News coverage has been faultless.


A quick glance at Twitter suggests people are unanimously in favour of watching "the dancing show" over a repeat of what we were told 8 months ago. Either you've wildly misread the mood of the nation or you're angling for a job in the Daily Mail's anti BBC department.

I don’t see what the problem is. The main points of the speech were on BBC1, it got to the point and left when it was scheduled to do so. The banners clearly stated to change over to BBC News Channel, which I last checked everyone had access to.

I think in the circumstances the actions taken by the BBC have been correct today. They’ve got channels full of live output today, they’ve got commitments.

ITV doesn’t do this with Coronation Street. (I appreciate it’s not the same in that regard, but it’s the point.)

Have the bbc got something against presenters saying bye? it’s especially noticeable with katty and Christian the show just abruptly ends and then just now reeta introduced a highlights of the pm’s statement then after that it was lukwesa in the presenters chair.

I agree, I know the news junkies on here probably would want wall to wall coverage on BBC One, the rest of the public thankfully don't think like that.

I think the amount of people wanting to watch strictly compared to little mix are very *very* different.

This feels like moaning for the sake of it.

It was an announcement of national importance of course it should be on BBC One. Equally Strictly is important to many. They successfully balanced both.

Little Mix is also prerecorded which makes it a lot easier to drop than Strictly.

It was superbly handled by the BBC - it's not like they cut away from him mid speech did they! Particularly given the amount of airtime they'd handed over given the botched start time. Any complaints are just ridiculous.

Great opt out point too, perfectly executed by the director and even a brief pause by Boris. Then back to Reeta (who was excellent) for a quick closer and smoothly back to Network. Great stuff.

(Easiest scheduling decision of the day was probably dropping Little Mix Smile)

BTW Little Mix now airs Friday at 7pm - surprised they've not chucked it out tomorrow afternoon TBH.

I'd guess the Strictly decision will give Newswatch their content this week assuming it isn't pulled again.

There's no room for it in the afternoons as they're showing Women's FA Cup and it's very unlikely they would have put it in the afternoon either way.
