Realistically there are always going to be viruses around, its sort of how the system works.

We're not into Black Death territory yet, which on its own apparently wiped out half the population of Europe, but to look at some of the media reports seems to suggest that's where we're going. Which is classic hyperbole if nothing else.

Such an event would put the brakes on global warming.

Taking a very broad dispassionate view, it may be just what the planet (as an eco system) needs to happen !

I know we're going a bit off-topic here but the New York Times published an article on carbon emissions in China since the coronavirus. Article: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/26/climate/nyt-climate-newsletter-coronavirus.html.

There was no 'formal' end to VD on the News Channel today, as it spanned the TOTH during which the Downing Street press conference was taking place. I am not sure whether there was any announcement on BBC Two.

However, all the lower thirds disappeared at 10:59:55 (along with the purple VD 'live bug'). All were replaced about 5 seconds later by the standard NC graphics.

Very subtle change that only pres geeks would notice. Very Happy (I really need to get out more, but only with an anti-Coronavirus mask).

This has happened a few times before. No, there is no BBC Two announcement when it happens.

Also a very subtle jump in picture as it switches, To I assume the output of a different gallery?

I didn't actually notice a jump in picture as it switched, just all the on screen graphics sweeping away (in the normal fashion) and a pause before they were replaced.

I thought all the galleries at NBH were interchangeable, so I would have expected such a change to be invisible in terms of the picture feed from an outside source.

Interesting that is a BBC Breakfast production rather than BBC News.

I thought last night's programme worked quite well coming from the Salford studio. Was that a first for them doing a live special so far from their regular timeslot?

That VD Breaking News strap is a mess.

Just watched the ITV Evening News just now and boy are they running with the coronavirus story - it took up the first 20 minutes of their bulletin. The word can, may and might were being heavily used and the reports seemed almost designed to whip up panic and suggest we'll all be doomed rather than sticking to the facts.

Add to that the fact it was followed up up a story about how baby monitors are hackable and the bulletin felt almost like a trip back to the mid-Noughties alarmist, sensationalist style of ITV News back then.

All Coronavirus coverage is like that.

And of course there isn’t much else happening at the moment. Even Politics is about the coronavirus.

Get used to it. This is the biggest story of the year.

I found out the other day that they're finally doing an American version of Channel 4's Utopia.

Coincidence...? Yes.
