“Katie is here with newsnight over on BBC Two in about 10 minutes time...”

I’m waiting for Huw to subtly raise an eyebrow when he announces who’s presenting Newsnight at the end of the Ten

I have a feeling it won’t be mentioned that Newsnight is getting underway on BBC Two..

He mentioned it and you could tell he was trying not to give anything away.

Read into the responses from Katie Razall and Esme Wren and it suggests Emily Maitlis herself decided not to present tonight, rather than the BBC asking her not to.

Doubt we've heard the last of this. Never underestimate the BBC's ability to shoot itself in the foot.

There was no need for it to single out this complaint for a fast turnaround with a tweet from the BBC News PR team. Otherwise, it would have soon been forgotten about.

Clearly last night's Newsnight was the last time Emily Maitlis will ever work for the BBC. Expect a new itv / Good Morning Britain contract for her by the end of the week.

How's them GMB ratings going? Still trouncing Breakfast into 2nd place?

The worrying thing is after days of being asked to move on everyone is talking about Emily Maitliss rather than Dominic Cummings tonight - the vast majority defending her and slamming the BBC, which itself makes the Cummings crew happy. That said only The Guardian have put Maitliss on the front page tomorrow

I do expect a Naga style U-turn - and it may come quickly. The question is though if it happens again it shows they learnt nothing from the last time.

As for the next big job in television - it's certainly isn't Susanna Reid's understudy on GMB. I'd actually say it is C4 News as although Matt, Krishnan and to a lesser extent Cathy are good in their own way, I can't really see any of them leading the show in the way Jon Snow has once he leaves.

The Telegraph also have Maitlis on the cover.

I know there's a whole raft of conclusions being jumped on.... But what the heck...

NBC Sky World News?

Her Prince Andrew interview made big news in the States. She's would be excellent in a HardTalk/Armanpour style slot on the schedule.

Certainly a lot more worth leaving Newsnight for than a crappy bit part on the Piers Morgan Show.

Good old BBC switching the attention onto itself during a political crisis once again and throwing another of its female news presenters under the bus. they wouldn't have it any other way

Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It got it right about the BBC as he said - "The BB **** C yeah, I mean they crumble at the first sign of pressure, like an old woman's hip. That's why they had a **** programme called Sorry"

I just tried to find the thread of when that happened but stumbled upon this one instead. Interesting how times change.

Fascinating! Would be interesting what the same people who still post here think of her today (e.g. Spencer, all new Phil, noggin)

Reminds me of when everyone seemed to hate Sara Cox when she did Radio 1 breakfast, but warmed up to her by the time she did her Sunday morning show.

"I am not a sexist" in that thread reminds me of:

"Dear Mr. President, there are too many states nowadays. Please eliminate three. I am not a crackpot."
