BBC 2 Wales has existed for as long as I can remember? There's no English regions version of BBC 2 but the nations have their own versions of BBC 2.

On that argument though, the First Minister's press conferences in Wales, Scotland and NI should be broadcast on network BBC 1 and the NC as well. Yes, Boris Johnson is the PM of the UK, but on Coronavirus, he speaks just for England alone. And on the measures regarding lockdown, he most definitely now speaks for England alone. So as not to confuse viewers in the devolved nations, his press conference tonight should not be broadcast on primetime BBC 1 in all nations, but instead on BBC 2 Scotland/Wales/NI and only on BBC 1 in England, where it matters.

BBC2 Wales and BBC2 NI were suspended at the beginning of this crisis. BBC2 Scotland ended when BBC Scotland launched and unlike its predecessor isn't used for network content bumped from BBC1.

That is strange then, especially as BBC 2 Wales listings tonight show Normal People in the 9 - 10pm slot, where as BBC 2 England is showing Hospital.

BBB 2 Wales is back alongside BBC 2 NI.

Very odd that this statement by the leader of the opposition is only on BBC One.

Could they have not packaged it as a Party Political Broadcast and hence it would have been shown in all the places at all the times they usually are?

I believe Party Political Broadcasts are only allowed in the run up to elections, which are a legal requirement as we don't allow party political advertising in this country. Happy to be corrected though.

Party Election Broadcasts (PEBs) are only allowed before elections. Party Political Broadcasts (PPBs) can be shown at any time of the year, but are restricted in number and are dependant on the party holding seats in the UK or devolved Parliaments/Assemblies.

The statement last night should have been introduced as a 'Prime Ministerial Broadcast', and the one today by Starmer as a 'Response by the Leader of the Opposition'. They are not classed as PPBs.

The Ofcom full rules are here if anyone is having problems getting to sleep tonight. Very Happy

Indeed.

I note that the BBC News graphics made an inadvertent appearance at the start of that.

I believe "unskilled" is the correct definition, although there has been some debate about changing that lately.

For the security guards, maybe. I was under the impression "unskilled" meant people like factory workers and labourers. Drivers and care staff definitely have vital skills!

I get that “unskilled” sounds quite snobby, but doesn’t it refer to work that requires no qualifications to carry out?

It's an official term. Those kind of jobs are described as 'unskilled' in the likes of questionnaires, surveys and financial product applications. That's because you require no skills or qualifications to do the job.

Most peoples jobs are unskilled, mine is unskilled. Unless you work in a job that requires you to have had to go to university or have essential qualifications to do the job, it's unskilled.

People just like to create furore out of anything nowadays. We've got enough to be worried about nowadays without getting outraged over a newsreader using an official term.

Vicki Young presenting straight out of the conference and then introducing Outside Source on the NC

Yes, and she brilliantly filled the time with an ad-hoc summary of events, without the need to be 'interviewed' by a colleague, and then did an in-vision continuity announcement into Outside Source.

I put her up there with Michael Brunson.
