With the recent closure of Fountain, Teddington, and TVC (although 3 studios will reopen) and now this, there is little left of what we had 10 years ago.

Other studios which have closed in the last few years are Capital studios in Wandsworth and MTV studios in Camden. Riverside Studios is also currently closed for redevelopment.

I think we're all avoiding the most important question here: What will the VO say on the GMB TOTH?

In all seriousness I think this is an interesting move for ITV and definitely a shame considering the history that that place has. I'm surprised that this isn't a good time to run a central London based studio when you take into account the closures over recent years.

As for ITV Daytime, I can see them doing some kind of combo set depending on how long they'll be in the temporary studio. I mean (for example) GMB and Lorraine using the same set just lit differently. Wouldn't it be ironic if GMB were to move to Salford.
In terms of a temporary basis,
I think there's possibility Loose Women could be filmed in a make shift studio somewhere in the hospital at Covent Garden and This Morning could return to the Albert Dock, then ITV Breakfast (GMB & Lorraine) could go to pinewood studios to join Weekend, think Lorraine could benefit from using the weekend studio.

I thought MTV Studios/Camden Lock/former TV-AM studios were still going albeit used not as much as it used to be in the MTV days after they bought it? I know part of it was refurbished but the building still appears to be owned by MTV and last I looked at it on Street View it still seems to have the eggs on the roof from TV-AM.

Suspect there is more chance of This Morning coming from Buckingham Palace than the Albert Dock.

They can all be filmed wherever and would look exactly the same, except for minor tweaks if the studios are different shapes and sizes. People keep mixing up studios and sets. The only show which would look different would be This Morning, but I'm sure they'd make the move an integral part of the show.

Oh yes the egg cups live on and in the few years had a lick of paint. Always enjoy a walk along the Regent's canal.

I think there is one very small studio, a tiny fraction of what was available in years gone by. Sounds like something similar will happen on a larger scale at The London Studios.

ITN are apparently not part of this move and never have been. It's sad that the focus on these forums is the trivial stuff without consideration or reflection for the 200 or so extremely talented people who will shortly be out of work. It is these people that have been the driving force in the success of big studio shows across all channels for so many years, and cannot easily be replicated wholesale. Whatever your taste in tv programming, the standards will fall with every large and experienced studio base being shut. In my opinion this more of a travesty and worthy of discussion far more than any minor change in how a daytime magazine show looks.

The land on which the site resides was originally owned by Lambeth council, and the building was owned by the CIN properties (the Coal board pension fund at the time). We know itv bought the building recently - but who owns the land on which it is built?

ITV bought the freehold on the site in 2013. So they own the land:

Though interesting that they'll have to pay the former owners when they redevelop

Yes the main TV-am studios were either demolished or converted into office space. The complex is probably in more use than it has been for some time - in fact it has recently been extended to accommodate Channel 5.

I'm aware that MTV still occupies the building.

I was referring to the studios within the building (which used to be hired out), most of which no longer exist (I think there were 4 at one point.)

I joined this forum on 11th September 2001, amidst much discussion of how television was reacting to the atrocities occurring in New York City. It may have appeared insensitive to talk about something as trivial as presentation when thousands lost their lives, but this website has a purpose, and that is it.

I'm sure the majority of this forum have full sympathy with those that stand to lose their jobs, and realise the serious implications of the centre closing. But the fact that we choose to occasionally discuss more superficial matters is just the nature of the beast.
