JK Derry - I apologise if my contradiction of your floor areas caused offence. I have always used the BBC metric feet dimensions when thinking about TV Centre studio sizes, hence thinking your dimensions were off.

Maybe they should just go entirely metric and use square metres and prevent this confusion Wink

The point of this forum is to discuss and be informed. Rather than be unnecessarily rude they would do well to listen to members such as Noggin. The forum has members who work in the relevant places and organisations who try to be informative & give accurate information rather than wildly speculate.

Also, on a forum like this one, it's perfectly acceptable to still call it *BBC* Television Centre - no matter who owns the site. Embarassed Smile Wink

"From the Stanhope Television Centre, this is Good Morning Britain". Nah, that'll never catch on.

Hi Noggin, there is no need for apology. This is the problem with written word. It is hard to express things clearly. Anything written down can be taken wrong.

I just wanted to clear up a few things. I had some great times visiting that wonderful Television Centre, either for shows or as a tour around it.

I remember being in Studio TC8 when they were recording a forgotten sitcom called "Chambers". The audience seating was squeezed in to the studio, very crushed together. I think they had an audience of 320 for that sitcom. Now that wonderful studio is no more.

Now that the London Studios is going to be down sized, does anyone have any idea when ITV plan to first leave the Southbank site and then when they will return?

Spring 2018 is what I hear of them leaving, but no idea on when they will return? It has taken the BBC four years to return to the three studios.

They haven't even put planning permission in yet (only an outline plan so far) and planning moves very slowly plus it might all be turned down and have to be redone, So it could be years before they even start.

Some on here say the plans include studio 8, some say it doesn't. Can anyone confirm?

While it's clearly great news that TC2/3 may have found a succession of bookings through the unfortunate demise of TLS, and it's great that TC2 is included in this (many thought it might be too small to get decent bookings, and initially it wasn't even going to have a gallery fitted out) it doesn't help the fact that there will remain a big shortage of studio facilities in London. The problem is that the new TC doesn't have much set storage AIUI, and a curfew for rigging/striking. Back in the day, sets were struck and reset overnight, with the light done over night too. By first thing, the fine light could be done in time for rehearsals. Excellent and efficient use of resources. Not sure that's going to be an option with the area being residential.

There's no doubt that the television studios market has changed beyond almost all recognition in the last decade.

If Stanhope have anything about them, they will surely have made sure the residential lease agreements make it clear that anybody living there may have to put up with a bit of noise because the studios are a 24 hour operation, and any NIMBY complaints will not be entertained.

Just like the idiots who but a house next to a railway line and complain that the trains are noisy, if you decide to live next to a working TV studio complex there is likely to be some noise at times.

I agree, but if Joe Public have it in their mind that living next to a railway line shouldn't be noisy, I doubt they will consider that a TV studio would be ?

It's all modern day nonsense, industrial and residential areas should be kept separate, they always used to be !
