If the show has 20 episodes then the final show will air on the Saturday before Christmas - but they usually take a week off for the Record of the Year which is shown in Mid December (also presented by Ant andDec) so that could mean the final of Pop Idol could be on Xmas Day this year. That along with Emmie and Coro St could mean a ratings sucess for ITV1 this Xmas Day.

That's not likely is it ? As the Pop Idol final is live, think about it, are the participants, the presenters and all the production crew going to come in to do a live programme on Christmas Day ? Unlikely I'd have thought.

Yes thats true although im sure I read somewhere that ITV were considering the final of Pop Idol on Xmas Day as it would gurantee high ratings - Apart from Emmerdale and Corrie ITV need something omn Xmas Day that gets high ratings if they are to win against the BBC

Is my family the only family that do something on xmas day and not watch tv? True we usually record stuff we wanna watch and we do have the tv on in the background on the day; but wouldnt itv get more viewers if it wasnt on christmas day?

Well I think people would be more likely to watch TV if Pop Idol was on instead of a some film thats been on 20 times before - they (ITV) have to think of the viewing figures.

I usually record Coro St on Xmas Day anyway as Christmas is so hectic with the family it saves me worrying if I miss it.

Programmes on Xmas Day are a funny thing, the BBC particularly put good stuff on such as Only Fools, but then all your family end up talking over the top of it, same with Xmas editions of the soaps!

Yes usually Corrie is on in the background but there are so many people at home that day I always miss bits of it so record it and watch it later.

I dont think much of the BBCs Xmas schedules - I prefer ITV1 as they have Corrie, Emmerdale etc but some of my family insist on having Only Fools and Horses on (which seems to be on every year) and then no-one can hear it anyway Rolling Eyes

But you'll find that the reason that ITV don't put out their best programmes over the Christmas holidays is that there is not sufficient advertising revenue to justify it during the Christmas break.

Quite! But with the FA clash, who knows? I reckon ITV should swap Pop Idol with The Vault - thereby putting Pop Idol on after Fame Academy has finished!

Well, Fame Academy has already lost 1 million viewers in a week.

Personally, I never really watched the first series of FA for the main shows - just for the Big Brother style updates, and only the late night unscheduled uncut episodes at that.

Fame Academy is fixed apparently as well. Some of them have songwriting contracts or were part of a defunct band (louise from Orchid anyone?)

Xmas day Pop Idol sounds good but it's never gonna happen is it? And as it is, most people will be too stuffed and drunk by about 4pm to actually care and concentrate on it - I know my family will be!

I never watched Fame Academy either as it never appealed to me. I was watching Popstars the Rivals on ITV at the time also so it would have been too much of the same type of show. I think i'll stick to Pop Idol - I much prefer ITV1 anyway.
