It just shows that GMB can make an amazing program with their team. The old theme and amazing coverage made the program this morning. Far better than the BBC which I have looked back on record. Thumbs up to the director, Susanna, Piers, Charlotte and the rest of the team.

I think its now time that GMB took on serious news, evidently its capable. I can't help but think that the show wouldn't have been half as good if this news had occurred on a Friday and Ben, Kate & Sean were presenting. Make Susanna, Piers and Charlotte 5-days, give us a show with a main focus on news and a FEW light hearted stories - that would help it gain the viewers and carry it on through to 9.25am! The extension to the program certainly paid off this morning.

Also, from the promos we've seen GMB have an exclusive interview tomorrow with Donald Trump; they can get the guests, the interviews they just need to show what they're capable of every day rather than when a breaking news story happens!

I've not seen the opener to today's programme, but as confirmed Susanna is in Brussels and the old/serious music is being used, as you'd expect.

In your opinion. Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty and the BBC Breakfast team were excellent.

6am opening similar also, adapted opening titles with the 'newsy' opening music.

The opener feels more American then normal today with the presenters names and locations, which honestly sounds nice but there is just a timing issue.

I have to say this morning that Good Morning Britain has been excellent. This is what can happen when a team really is allowed to do what they do best. The reporting has been first class, and just like yesterday, Piers Morgan has been excellent when in serious mode, just getting on with the job, and not trying to be silly or funny. Even Charlotte Hawkins has been much more involved and it's allowed her to show off just how good a journalist she is. The team really works well together, when they're not trying to be too lighthearted.

If ITV could just let the team do what it is obviously very good at, and let the presentation match without trying to constantly tinker and make hot seem more 'housewife friendly' or more 'morning friendly', then it could give both Good Morning Britain, and ITV News as a whole, a chance to really shine.

I'm just happy the old theme tune is back. Today (and yesterday) GMB has shown that it's capable of covering hard hitting news and not just doing light hearted 'fluffy' stuff. It's a shame that it takes a full on story like this to bring out the best.

I've always wondered if Erron is happy with the show's light hearted stuff as a former ITN director.

Sounds like BBC Breakfast's formula in my mind.

I agree to a point but you need to consider the rest of the ITV schedule. How does a more serious, newsy GMB lead into Lorraine, Jeremy Kyle, This Morning and Loose Women? Perhaps if we had something like The Time, The Place at 9:25 it would be a better match, but daytime is crucial in terms of the entire channel's market share so I don't envisage ITV changing tact for a long time.

More sombre lighting on Lorraine today I think?
