When it first started am I right in saying that they used to record the programmes on the same day and edit them for airing in the evening, therefore getting rid of any press spoilers?

Pretty sure the first series in 1997 was recorded the night before.

There may have been a live insert at the end of the show, but I think because of the potential ponderous nature of thinking of the answers even that may have too much of a risk to even tighten up in the edit in less than a couple of hours.

The show started on 4th September 1998.

Hence the 20th anniversary being celebrated in 2018.

I believe the original few series were filmed close to transmission, whether that was literally one per day for 10 days rather than two per day every other day I don’t know.

It’s better when it isn’t live as it can be better produced, the live Tarrant versions were always manic.

WWTBAM is recording 4 shows Thursday - Sunday this week. Which I'm presuming is for this series. If so, that's a short record to broadcast turnaround.

Edit : presumably not as that would be too short a turnaround.

When it was announced WWTBAM was returning for 2019, it originally stated that it was returning for a 10 programme run. However, only 6 shows are being shown this series? Whether the original information I read was incorrect, I'm not sure.

Yes, that's right it's in the ITV press release.

So the other 4 must be 'specials' or showing some other time.

Just hope there are no celeb "specials" - that is what killed the show originally.

Oh there will be, I have no doubt there are in the plan for the show.

I'm loving the series came back after the anniversary edition. But they should learn from the failures of the past to avoid series fatigue and everyone getting sick of it again: don't overdo it, don't spam out 10 series a year and keep it fresh every time (in the original Chris Tarrant runs, each series changed something in some way, such as lighting, music changes, etc), but don't add pointless gimmicks that add nothing to the experience.

Still liking how Clarkson can throw in some references like the Coughing Major when it's contextually relevant, nor does he overuse gags just to force them in.

I would agree with some the questions might be more easier, but that's returning to more of the classic style: anything up to and including £8k was usually very simplistic, £16k is where they could be a bit harder and anything past £32k were specialist topics only a small number of people consider. I didn't like the 12 question tree because the questions became very hard much faster, so people only played like 5 questions before quitting.

I abhor celebrity specials. I don't want to watch Joey Essex and Gemma Collins answering questions on telly and it being "hilarious" because they're both as thick as a plank.

I want normal people who are serious about playing it, winning money that will benefit their lives, and an occasional bit of humour thrown in (as it is now).
