Look what popped up in the X Factor ad break to introduce the new Milk Tray advert. I guess it was the same as the ITV version with the UTV logo instead? Listen to the music...!

* This is the ITV version. Think it was the same vo as well apart from the station name. Strange to hear an English accent announcing something "now on UTV" on your uploaded clip.

I think that part of the reason ITV hasn't gone after STV yet is because of all the trouble it would have, I doubt Scotland Tonight could go since ITV border scot has that current affairs show at the same time, plus I doubt it would go down well if three news shows with on e having a LIVE opt out were merged to be come one? plus add in the local tv etc.

ITV didn't "go after" UTV either.

ITV have been predicted to be just about to buy UTV and STV in the next 6 months for at least 12 years.

ITV plc buying the STV Group is inevitable, regardless of any political fallout. It's a matter of when, not if.

Unless you have a crystal ball, I don't know how you can predict that.

As Andrew said, these comments have been made for years and nothing has changed.

The way things are going, it's just as likely that Scotland will be independent and the relationship between ITV and STV diminishes.

Indeed though I think they're waiting to see what happens to STV Productions before they attempt to buy the company. Their production business was way off its own targets this year despite the investment in their London team over the last few years.

I'd say that with the way UTV has gone/is going, STV can't be far behind. I highly doubt, even with a second Scottish referendum and political influence, Scotland will go independent. Nor do I think viewers would ultimately care too much these days if it was absorbed into ITV. In fact, with the little regional programming it provides, plus the opt-outs of popular ITV shows, Scottish viewers would much rather watch ITV anyway.

Yes, true. Plus Brexit probably isn't helping. I still reckon ITV plc will own/run all 15 regional channel 3 licences across the UK by 2020.

I dont believe stv will be part of itv by 2020. Stv just keeps on expanding including ita news service.

It wouldn't be just the channel 3 licences ITV would acquire. They'd also get the local tv licences.

Not necessarily, if they get in the way of a lucrative sale to ITV they'll be closed or sold on to someone else. Or ITV will do a UTV Ireland and flog it to someone else as soon as they've got it.

Interestingly, the UTV logo on their YouTube channels has been replaced by an ITV logo.
