The new Northern Irish announcer is a breath of fresh air, lifting the words off the page, even on the most humdrum announcements like the menu they do at 5:59pm

Still a bit odd to hear her say Cymru though!

The "Cymru" thing is weird anyway. The channel is entirely English language.

It's about re-enforcing the channels Welsh identity, and to be fair it's probably worked to an extent - as discussed previously ITV Wales is held in a higher regard now than it was even just five years ago.

Also ITV Cymru Wales do make content for S4C, although I don't know if that extends beyond Yr Byd ar Bedwar nowadays.

It's held in a wider regard because of the redundant "Cymru" tag? I'm sceptical. We have BBC Cymru Wales which produces both English & Welsh programmes but the anglophone television service is "BBC One/Two Wales". The "Cyrmru" doesn't add anything. It just makes the station name (the few times it's mentioned) sound like a mouthful.

Cymru isn't a "redundant tag" that "doesn't add anything", it's our national identity.

Well its been mentioned four times this evening on ITV which isn't bad going.

ITV Cymru Wales makes Hacio, Cefn Gwlad and Y Byd ar Bedwar for S4C.

I think adding the Cymru gives it a little more prestige in Welsh media circles - what I call the BAFTA Cymru mob. I think it's a nice touch - English speakers in Wales are no stranger to Cymru being plastered everywhere.

The BBC Cymru Wales ident is regularly played out on BBC One Wales, especially before shows like Doctor Who etc:

We'll have to agree to disagree. It's redundant so far as I'm concerned.

A country's language forms part of its national identity surely?

Didn't say it didn't.
