So you think ITV would have survived had the companies of 1990 stayed the same, not changed their operations, and carried on? Through increased competition from Sky, video games, the Internet, Netflix? It would have collapsed.

"Given up on any programming made outside of London or Salford". What was Broadchurch, chopped liver? Downton Abbey? There are plenty of shows made all around the UK. They just don't need huge studio facilities because technology has moved on.

That new studio doesn't look too bad, and more spacious than many regions considering they have space for a soft set. The graphic panels in the soft set actually look nice with the lit up edges.

Thank you for your opinion, it is noted, however, like you we all gave our thoughts, otherwise what is the point of this website forum for? I gave my views, and disagree, fine, I don't mind, but there is no need for insults.

It will be interesting to see the shots of Belfast they have for the backdrop. I wonder if it will be similar to BBC Newsline's look?

I expect there to be shots of the outside of where they are situated. Belfast Harbour etc.

I like BBC Newsline's backdrop, especially their late night skyline version, hope UTV do it well with their backdrop.

It'll probably be the reverse angle of BBC Newsline's. They look towards mainly North with a bit of west and east - so I'd hazard a guess that UTVs would be South, with a bit of east and west.

Question is whether they do what the BBC haven't done this time around and used a live shot - which UTV could very easily do from the rooftop.

Would it be rude of me to ask exactly what you're disagreeing with? My "fingers before brain" remark, or whether or not UTV have already paid the price for the failure of UTV Ireland (or, indeed, both)?

As regards the former, fair enough, I should have kept that to myself, and I apologise. As regards the latter, I *do* believe UTV have already paid the price, since they *have* already been taken over by ITV plc and *have* already lost at least a great deal of their independence, and their radio stations *have* been taken over by Murdoch - but if you believe that they haven't finished paying the price yet, I absolutely respect that.

They might be paying the price in terms of the takeover by ITV, but I think the move from Havelock House would have happened at some point anyway, and just happened sooner as a result of the ITV takeover.

STV have also downsized, and if UTV had remained independent, they would have probably ended up relocating to a location similar to what they're about to move in to (possibly a bit larger to accommodate the radio stations).
