which may follow on from a conversation I had with someone who couldn't see how they were planning to monetise it.
They may have trouble monetizing it anyway. Men's singles Tennis might be considered to be the top form of Tennis, with Women's singles just behind, but frankly it is not regarded, at least in the UK, as a top tier sport, it's very much second tier at best, possibly third tier, and outside of the majors might be difficult to sell.
Also, the rights are for Masters 1000, and Masters 500 tournaments, which does not cover the entire ATP tour. The 1000 series is 9 events, the 500 series is 13 events. The rest come under the Masters 250 series, which is not in this package. So it's not as though you'll have weekly events on Amazon Prime. You'll be missing some weeks anyway due to the majors, the World Tour Finals and the 250s.
ATP 2019 onwards, conversation I had today seems to think AZP will be able, and willing at least in the first year, to sublicence content. We might see some content on other broadcasters as a result.
