If you fancy catching some retro presentation, the BBC Sport website are doing another one of their 'as live' rewind features this evening - this time from England v Scotland at Euro 96, almost 20 years ago.
Its running from 7pm-10.30pm but has the live re-start and rewind features so you'll be able to whizz through the 1996 Grandstand opening titles and 'coming up' music, and check out some great 90s on-screen furniture. And Des, Alan and Jimmy of course . . .

I don't understand why they can't put SSN HQ on channel 400 when they've got channels on 200, 700, 800 and 900.

discovery/Eurosport hosting a press conference this morning announcing all sorts of rights deals, the only one so far in the UK is French national rugby test matches to 2020-21 season
Zaslav says Discovery is committed to spending $5bn on sports rights over next 10 years. Stress that Eurosport is "profitable and growing".

Putting a channel on 400 is still essentially jumping ahead of other channels in the EPG. The other sports channels would be in uproar if Sky launched a new slot on 400 and then used it for themselves, and I'm not even sure they'd be allowed to do it, either by their own rules or other EPG rulings in place.

That's an interesting one of itself in that I can't recall Eurosport having ever shown rugby before.
Also announced has been a sublicensing deal with RTE for the 2018 and 2020 Olympics. RTE haven't traditionally touched the Winter Games, though they gave the 2014 ones some derisory coverage on RTE News Now.

The RTE press release states that the coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics will be Live coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and a daily highlights show on RTE2 which as you say is a massive improvement on 2014 which was on RTE News Now

I suspect it's more of a legacy thing as the key sections have always started from x01 and everything else followed to keep it neat. The later small sections were shoe-horned in. There's probably no technical reason why there can't be a channel 400, after all the Adult section and Box Office start on 900 and 700 respectively, and most others start on a xx0 number as well.
The Entertainment section on Sky is the biggest block and covers the block of 198 from channel 101 upwards. That's why there is a channel 200 (TLC+2) as it's still part of Entertainment. Movies from 301, Music 350, Sport 401, News 501, Documentaries 520, Religion 580, Kids 601, Shopping 650, Box Office 700, International 780, Gaming/Dating 872, Adult 900.
Logically launching a channel on 400 would mean it falls back into the previous category, in this case music, if Sports starts on 401. So launching Mix on 400 could be bad practice, though it wouldn't appear where it should do with the other Sports channels, though it would appear above everything else in the All Channels list when you scroll down. That being said, usually one gets the EPG entry above the last one in that section so that would be 390.

Is there a public link to the EPG guidelines? Are they set out by OfCom or by the broadcasters themselves?
