Good for Sue . . . stepping down when she's at the very top, and that its her own decision rather.. And good to hear she'll still be involved in the BBC Sport fold with Wimbledon and the Olympics.

Very nice tribute by the SPOTY exceutive editor here:

This certainly makes her one of the longest-serving anchors of the programme. I think David Coleman did it for over 20 years, but she's certainly up there with Frank Bough and Steve Rider who presented for 18/19 years. Even Des Lynam only did 16 years.

Hmmm. Andy Murray is usually out at his winter training camp in Miami around the time of Sports Personality, and therefore won't be going to Leeds.

I wonder if this 'important role for Sue' mentioned in the press release is to be stationed out there to give him the trophy, given that apart from Chris Froome, the well of UK individual sporting achievement this year is very dry indeed.

There was Mo Farah at the Athletics, once again.

Or perhaps the captain of the British Lions.

There was Mo Farah at the Athletics, once again.

Who could even beat Murray last year.

Or perhaps the captain of the British Lions.

Who very few fans away from the sport could tell you the name of.

Murray will probably and should win it. Chris Froome, Farah and probably someone from the Lions and cricket will be there too.

Isn't a prerequisite for winning Sports Personality of the Year having a personality?

Isn't a prerequisite for winning Sports Personality of the Year having a personality?

No. I think most people see it as an exercise in awarding the highest sporting achiever in the country, the names slightly misleading.

Anyway, Murray does have personality it might be a grumpy one at times but he has one.

Massively off-topic, but...

Ian Bell?

Murray has no competition. You can rule out any of the Lions and cricket team mainly due to them being on Sky - Leigh Halfpenny was outstanding for the Lions (and Wales) and should at least be in the top 10, but unless there is a major campaign to get him the votes he won't win. The Lions should get the team award though, and Gatland should probably get the coach award.

Whoever wins I'm sure John Terry will collect the award.

I expect Gareth Bale to be on the list.

Sam Warburton of Wales was this years british and irish Lions captain incidentally.

Is anyone aware of whether or not STV are showing Pro 12 highlights this season?
